Black Spots on belly Hi Everyone! My little Gia is 6 1/2 years old, and I noticed that she has what appears to be large spots on her belly in her groin area on one side. They don't seem to bother her, she's not scratching or chewing, and they are smooth - not crusty or scaley. They almost look like large freckles? Does anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned (I hope not!!). Is there a way to treat holistically? Also, my mother's yorkie has black "specks" they almost look like a patch of blood blisters, or pin pricks. My mom's dog scratches, has hot spots, and hair loss. The vet put her on steroids and said she was allergic to chicken, so mom changed the diet. But poor Sofie (dog) is still scratching. Again, hoping someone has great suggestions and help! :) I told my mom that if there was a solution, then THIS SITE was the place to find it. :) THANKS EVERYONE! :) |

Pretty common with aging dogs. Our pup had a clear pink belly a few weeks ago and now she has some darker patches. Our cairn terrier who reached a rather ancient age of nearly 18 developed dark patches on her underside and a good deal of moles and other bumpy skin conditions -- all old age related but harmless. If your girl is otherwise healthy I would not be concerned. |
Black spots can be quite normal, most especially in dogs who have any sort of allergies or inflamed skin. My Wylie has had them forever. As for your Mom's dog, I *highly* doubt it's a food allergy as they're actually very, very rare -- while enviro allergies (pollen, dust etc) are VERY common.
