Dry skin :( Been using a shampoo called perfect coat. Part of this might have been my fault trying to shower and give Dexter a shower and shampoo at the same time. Perhaps, I didn't get all the shampoo rinsed off. Due to the cold the furnace is running a lot and until the other day, we never had a humidifier. Dexter has been rubbing against furniture and I've been gently massaging him. Any advice for his dry skin??? :( |

My boy has allergy's, my vet advised me to use only Hylyt shampoo and conditioner, this can be used everyday if necessary. Now that the cold weather has hit us and the heat is on I see his skin is getting dryer. Furnace going all day takes moisture out of the air, I am off to buy a humidifier for my boy. I have read here on YT some members add coconut oil to pups food to help with dry skin. |
I don't know, but I want to say I hope he gets better soon. dry skin is the worst. :( |
Dog I use the hylyte shampoo and conditioner from the vet. Try rubbing some coconut oil on his coat. sometimes it can be food allergy. My friends dog was allergic to poultry, she eats a beef diet and is better. I had a poodle with dry skin and a venison base diet helped her. I hope he feels better soon. |
Well I got a conditioner with coconut oil to try on him. I just need to make sure the shampoo is completely washed out next time too. My skin is dry to now with the furnace on all the time. Hope with the humidifier running now that will help out some |
I hope that all works for your little guy! Let us know how he's doing |
Since we are on the subject How often do you all give your kids a bath? During the winter months? |
I'll wait on the members that actually have their furbabies to reply lol but never you fear I'm going to be here lurking in the background taking notes |

I bought a leave in conditioner for skin and coat. It is by Warren London hydrating butter with Guava & Mangosteen. It is a non oily intense all natural hydrating treatment. It has a light scent and it has worked for my Joey's coat. You apply a small amount into your hands and rub into skin and coat evenly throughout dry area. Then brush the coat after to help spread the product evenly. The only trouble is I don't remember where I bought it. It is made in the USA. I hope this will be of some use to you. I will try to find out where I got it if you would be interested in getting it. Hope you find the solution. Dry,itchy skin is the worst. |
Dexter's dry itchy ski I just went online and found the Warren London Hydrating Butter for skin & coat when I typed it in so I see it is sold many places even on Amazon if you want to look. |
Might be something for me to look into. Sigh we don't have any pet stores in town to buy pet supplies where I live:( |
Warren London product You can buy the product online as I am sure that is what I did. Wag.com is probably where I bought it. I don't go out to stores anymore. |
Now that it is winter and Cody is not in the yard every day digging holes with dirt flying every where and his face is not buried in a hole snorting in all the dirt, I will be giving him a bath every other week. Every 3rd day he gets a little booty bath in the sink, I do use baby wipes for each and every pee and poop but by the 3rd day baby wipes just ain't cutting it. |
If the itching is from dry skin, you can use coconut oil, but I use two shampoos from Isle of Dogs that are wonderful. My little girl doesn't have dry skin, but she was biting one foot, and my vet thought it could be allergies, since that is a classic sign. The next vet visit my vet found an injury on her paw, one that my husband or I or even my vet couldn't see initially. We all closely examined that paw. I was convinced it wasn't an allergy, and I was right. I was using Isle of Dogs #10 shampoo or IV SanBernard Black Passion, both very moisturizing shampoos. When this happened, I decided to try Isle of Dogs #12 shampoo. The evening primrose oil is wonderful on the skin and coat. I buy the larger sizes to make them more cost effective. I gave some to a friend of mine whose Bichon was suffering from hot spots, and it worked great. You should try putting a cup of water close to your heat source. My last Yorkie was really affected by the heat in winter, and my vet suggested I do that. A humidifier would also work. It could be as simple as not completely washing out all of the shampoo. https://iodogs.com/products/no-12-tr...se-oil-shampoo |
