How coordinated is your furbaby? Max and Sasha run around, wrestle and play all the time. They both will balance themselves on my hip while I take a nap. They maneuver precariously around my laptop to get at me when I am in the recliner. They jump on the back of the couch and walk it like the Flying Wallendas. But when it comes to catching a treat they are the biggest klutzes in the world. I will throw a cheerio at them and they won't even try to catch it. It will hit Max square between the eyes and he never even flinches. My favorite time was when I tossed a cheerio to Sasha and it landed on top of her head. She turned around for 5 seconds looking for it before it finally fell off! Max loves to chase his ball but he never tries to catch it in the air (it is a small ball). He just waits until it stops bouncing and then pounces on it. All my other dogs would snatch treats out of midair. With my last dog I could balance a treat on his nose and he would stay motionless until I gave the command and then he would flip it and catch it before it hit the ground. He was a bigger dog. Is this normal for yorkies? |
lol cute descriptions, to answer your question, NO not normal for the breed. My now passed 4 girls would catch small balls in the air, of course I had to teach them, praise when they caught it in mid air with command word of "catch it", no praise when they missed, just tossed it again. My adopted boy Cody, now 5 yo and very smart has learned to "catch it" in mid air he will jump in the air to "catch it", some thing my girls never did. I would say, it all depends on the dog, guess they are "just" not into catching things lol. |
Duchess is not the most agile puppy in the world......in fact she is just downright goofy even when she runs. It is so funny watching her. She does the same thing with cheerios, hilarious |
