Duchess is getting a kitten We are picking up a kitten on Saturday from a woman who rescues feral cats. She has a 10-12 week old kitten has the same coloring as Duchess. Duchess loves kittens and the last kitten I fostered they bonded really quickly. They played and sleep together but I was only fostering the kitten until I could find it a good home. Biggest mistake of my life because Duchess is an hyper energetic and that little kitten help keep Duchess active. Right now she just seems so bored all the time and never seems to get excited about anything except going outside. She craves excitement. Plus I missed having a cat around. My cat of 15 years passed away last year so I think it is time for another. I hope they bond because I feel like Duchess youthful exuberance is slowly going away. I don't want her to loose that. Fortunately for me, if the two don't bond, the lady said that she would take the kitten back if they don't get along. Wish us luck....I'm so excited..... |
I think it's wonderful that Duchess is getting her very own (early) Christmas kitty! Imagine the fun you'll all have over the holidays. Good for you to adopt a new little feline and super terrific for active little Duchess. |
I totally understand what you are talking about. I got my Riley his own Yorkie, Dillon. Riley is very active & seemed so bored & sad as my 5 y/o Lexi doesn't play. I didn't want anything to change Riley's incredible personality, thus, we got him a new playmate. They have bonded & I find SO much joy watching them play. I am sure your little Duchess is going to love her kitty. |
Decades ago, my german shepherd adopted (completely on his own) his own kitty. We kept coming out and finding them eating together or sleeping together. We had to go check with the neighbors to make it sure it was okay for him to keep it :D. |

I've had a long talk with Duchess. I told her since this is her cat, she has to clean the litter box, feed her, take her to the vet.....etc. She said she would do it....we'll see.....you know how furkids are.:D |

How precious, what memories they will make together!!!! I had an orange tabby named Tigger......he was much older when I got Buddybear and they became friends and would cuddle and groom each other. Unfortunately Tigger had to go to rainbow bridge. No chance of getting another kitty so Buddybear has to put up with me. |
I brought the kitten home and poor thing is so timid. I set her up a safe place where she has her food, water and litter box. She has not left her carrier since I brought her home. She doesn't really seem to like Duchess and all poor Duchess wants to do is play. The kitten is about between 10 and 12 weeks and was born to a feral cat colony. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will eventually come out of her shell.......patience is definitely key. I just have to not force it and let her set the pace for when she wants to interact. I have to admit this is a first for me.......every kitten or cat I brought home actually thought they own the house within minutes.......this is probably the most timid kitten I have ever seen. |
How about crating Duchess for a period of time so the kitten can explore her new home "safely" Being timid she may not go near her, but it also gives the kitten a chance to take a look at Duchess on kitten's terms...Just a thought! |
Well congratulations, remember, this is a wee little kitten that has left everything she knew in her short 10 / 12 weeks in her new world. She needs time to adjust to new surroundings. I like jkpal's idea to put Duchess out, away from the kitty and let kitty explore her new home. And yes, let kitty go to Duchess on her time when she is ready. This may be the first time kitty has seen a DOG :eek:, and a rambunctious lil yorkie can be quite fearful to a wee kitty that is just experiencing LIFE. I agree completely that she'll be just fine; she landed in a wonderful home! How about Marion, like Maid Marion? Sorta like a lady-in-waiting to Duchess or maybe Mouse? Cuz she's timid like one. What color or markings does kitten have...? |
