NY Post Article Has anyone seen the NY Post article today about the GSD named Zuzu? It's heartbreaking! This dog got out of her family's yard and animal control picked her up and took her to a shelter. Her family went to the shelter but instead of taking her home, they went to adopt a new puppy. She saw them too and was wagging her tail and barking. :( I don't understand how anyone can do something like that! Heartless family leaves escaped dog at shelter, adopts new pup | New York Post |
Oh that is so very sad  |
This is a bunch of Bull Crap. This shelter should have never let them adopt a dog KNOWING they had abandoned their other dog at the shelter. BAD, BAD SHELTER AND OWNERS AS WELL. |
What shelter allows a heartless family to adopt a dog KNOWING their escaped dog is there in their shelter and owners don't want the dog anymore. YES bad, bad shelter. Just because a dog is grieving over the loss of his companion, you get rid of the dog? HEARTLESS they should never be allowed to own another dog. |
I so agree |
I was thinking the same thing reading the article. I blame some of this on the shelter. Who allows them to adopt another dog. I know when I rescued Boomer and Thumper I had a hard time because a lot of groups wouldn't consider me because I work full time and they would be left alone during the day. Didn't the shelter do their due diligence in vetting the family? |

I saw this and thought the former owners were cold. Yet I could possibly be devil's advocate and say that they realized that this puppy didn't fit their household at the time and with that the puppy is going to find a better home because of their "decision" not to look for the puppy after she got out the yard. I do believe that if you have a pet and take on that responsibility it should be for the life of that pet, however if you realize that that particular pet isn't the best fit for you and you aren't the best fit for that pet, a change should happen. Its a double edge sword however I get it. |
I saw this on TV. It's just another example of how uncivil civilization has become. I'm tearing up my registration card to the "superior species". |

That said.... I do not find that irresponsible 'method of rehoming' excusable. It cost the shelter a lot of money to provide the services they do and I think it was awful and irresponsible of them to make it someone else's problem to care for their animal and someone else's responsibility to rehome him and make sure he is up to par (health and behavior) for a successful rehoming. |
For the most part I agree with you. But if the facts are true, in this case a family washed their hands of a dog that they had, and the freaking shelter knew it! That is pure irresponsibility in my opinion. We have relooked our situation and making new doggy plans in the advent of both our deaths. Knock on wood I have never had a dog go missing, but karma my cat disappeared for four days. I was beside myself. I kept on putting up posters callin shelters and local vets. Finally he did come home and looking no worse for wear either. I always suspected someone catnapped him and was local too. |
I also saw this article which ends with: Yet this tale does have a happy ending. The shelter has posted on Facebook that Zuzu will be taken in by a caring rescue group who will find her a home. And with more and more people expressing an interest to adopt Zuzu, it looks like this is definitely one dog who will have her day, and deservedly so. Here is the full article. it pretty much says the same thing but with a happier ending. Abandoned German Shepherd Reunited With Family At Animal Shelter Remains Heartbroken When They Try To Adopt A Different Dog I can also understand situations where a dog needs to be rehomed. But I don't see that happening here. This dog was abandoned and if not for the publicity could have been euthanized. Absolutely reprehensible. |
What bothers me the most is that these people abandoned the dog because she was TOO CARING, not because she was mean or sick....but just because she was grieving about another little being. What has happened to us as a society? |
