Curious about the cost for fully grown male yorkie? Hi, Does anyone have an idea how much a fully grown, average size, male Yorkshire Terrier would cost? He also has no papers. The fur baby is around 3 years old and I'm trying to figure out if the seller is trying to pull one over on me. Any information would be helpful. |
Re-homing varies I think depending on where the dog is being held. I adopted my dog from my vet that works with a rescue team, she asks only for a donation, what ever you can afford. My pup was a neutered, micro chipped 2 1/2 surrender. You say "the seller" which leads me to believe it is a "person" looking to sell their no longer wanted baby. How much are they asking. Selling price depends on many things, 1- Is this pup with-in the yorkie standard 5 to 7 pound range, 2-is the pup spayed / neutered, 3-micro-chipped, 4-up to date on shots, 5-can vet be contacted to ensure this is a healthy baby, 6- is the pup house broken or pad trained, 7-does the pup get along with ppl, children other dogs, animals in general. Keep in mind if this pup has personality issues the seller will not be truthful as all they want to do is to get RID of the dog. So again, how much are they asking for this dog and do you have have the answers to what I have asked? We cannot help, advise, answer if we do not know these answers. |
Honestly, a person can/could charge whatever they want for a re-home...from free to 3k! So it's tough to say. Personally, I think a re-home should be reasonable. |
I just re-read your thread, NO PAPERS, makes me think this pup was gotten from a BYB (back yard breeder) or a puppy mill as these are usually where you get pups that have NO PAPERS. |
No papers? Should equal minimal charge in my mind. There is no warranty if this dog is a purebred. Matese gave you a good question list. Even still folks will minimize any negative about the dog and accentuate the positives. In my mind rehomes are the responsibility of the original owner who should not be seeking financial compensation for their situation. Also be prepared even with a good dog there will be a period of adjustment. I have fostered a few dogs now and all have needed intensive training from house breaking or as I like to say house manners to walking well on a leash and social manners. But I will say the time you invest in your dog will reap a wonderful relationship. |
I got a rehome yorkie for 400 dollars.....she was 2.5 yrs at the time and was spayed. She came from a loving home and was very well taken care of. She is 7.5lbs and was (and still is) in excellent physical health and is microchipped. It only took me about a month to potty train her and she is a ball of energy. In fact she has so much energy, we are looking for a kitten to adopt. She loves kittens and the kitten will be her pet:p. But she doesn't have any papers. I also was able to get pet insurance for her for around 43 a month. On a monthly basis, all I need to do is get food for her. She goes to the vet once a year for checkups.....so far her monthly cost are around 125.00 a month which is food and her pet insurance.....hope this helps |
Also forgot grooming.......she goes every few months or so which is around 45.00 depending on what she gets done....sometimes less sometimes more but the average is around 45.00 |
Most rehomes I've seen have no fee especially in a full grown dog. Especially with no papers. If the surrendered to a rescue it would cost them likely around $300 so I would say that would be a fair fee if they chose to charge |
I'm not sure how the pay structure of rehoming works but most shelters or rescue organizations usually just ask for a couple of hundred to recoup the medical, neutering/spaying, and/or microchip costs that they incurred. And FYI, I didn't get any "papers" for my rescue baby either (not that it matters to me)! |
I got mine from a rescue and they charged me $400 for both. It covered there vaccinations and checkups. It also came with $100 voucher for training at Petco. |
