Oh it was Lisa. I had pre booked private assessment of Magic. And Ilona taped it all. I can't share that video as I promised I wouldn't. She is an amazing teacher I barely got through the physical aspects although my dog sailed through it. |

Good luck with that. |

Public sentiment always changes and as breeders we should at least try to sway or weigh in on this. |
I am excited to read up! Yes, AKC standard is still definitely a docked tail, does it not say dewclaws too? You have to do it between theee and five day's because they don't have appropriate blood clotting prior to 72 hours and post five days the blood vessel attachment is forming that connects the dew claw to the foot. |

I always dock tails at 4-5 days old and that was when I removed dew claws as well before I stopped. |

I personally believe in breeder's choice. I love the look of a tail docked to medium length, but I've had Yorkies from the time I was in my late teens. Despite that, if I personally was given a choice, I don't think I could ask for a docked tail, since I can't dismiss the issue of pain for these poor babies. Dew claw removal must be very painful. Katie has her front dewclaws :) I've read both sides of the argument about the degree of pain they feel having their tails docked. Here is the stance on tail docking by the AMVA. I am getting a second Yorkie in a few weeks and I specifically asked the breeder not to dock the tail ! I like tails ! |

Does anyone here dock their own tails? How do you determine the docking length? Is there a docked tail length determined by ytca or akc? |

I dock my own. I measure about 1/3in past where the tan turns into black under the tail and dock there. Anything shorter than 1/4in past the tan will probably be too short. My 5 month puppy I docked closer to 1/2in past the tan and it's slightly longer than I'd prefer so I'll stick to 1/3in in the future.[/QUOTE] Thank you! Lilah's is just barely past the black really. She was intended for show and her papa was finished but I think her breeder was still pretty new to the show circuit and was already kind of 'over it' with her experience in show unfortunately. |

It's sooo much fun. I miss doing it with Jax. |
I purchased my first Yorkie a couple of weeks ago. Bentley is a Parti and the breeder said her dogs did not have docked tails so she did not dock the puppies. Honestly, I was glad. My husband was concerned as he thought they needed to be for health reasons or something. Bentley has a cute tail, its all black but the tip is white. I suppose if he his tailed would have been docked the white portion would be gone. |
