All we want to do is snuggle with her at the moment.Hopefully in a week or so we can start to get her into a routine once she is settled. | Congrats on your new baby. Persistence and consistence is the key. I have the best of both worlds, Duchess uses the potty pads and goes outside. She likes to pee on potty pads but she likes to poop outside.
To help get her started. Every time she went potty outside I would say "go potty", and then I would give her a treat. This associates the word with the action. For training her indoors, I would put her on the potty pad and say "go potty". After awhile she caught on.
However so as not to confuse Duchess, I only trained her to go outside at first. Once she responded to "go potty" 100%, it was much easier to train her to use potty pads indoors. I got lucky and she is not confused by this. She now has a safe place in the house to relieve herself. I am not a big fan of making a dog wait 8 hours or more to pee while I am at work. I know how I feel when i have to hold it. It feels like I am going to burst. |
