Puppy Size estimating adult size for buying clothes! Hi All! My little guy is 18 weeks and just about 6 lbs! is that on target or perhaps chunky? i know he may b a throw back generation and end up a teapot which is fine but i also wanna make sure hes not a chunker hehehe i have a vet appointment soon but was looking on your thoughts! also, around the 5 month mark do they start to slow down in their growing?. how much bigger do you think hell be ? i want to know so i can plan ahead to buy jackets and sweaters its been a little tricky! I know his parents were bigger the dad 8lbs and the mom about 14lbs. let me know! |
Growth rates depend on genetics. My boys are full brothers from different litters and they had growth spurts their first year. They would stop growing and then have a spurt. Their last one was at 11 months, but that is a little later than the norm. Your boy won't be chunky, just bigger. :) My boys are both over the standard Yorkie 7 pounds. For clothes, I would buy only necessities until he is a year old, knowing that he will likely outgrow everything you buy now. |

prolly b like 10 lbs |
We followed a few growth charts that are online and our Lilly is now six months old and has followed her predicted weight almost to the gram from week to week and we have a pile of outfits she has grown out of so far. |

A puppy can not be overweight. I thought mine was done at about 7 months and he filled in a little more. |

So what do u think his adult weight will be? Given that of his current weight and his parents weight |

It is different for each individual pup. I had asked whether Addie had stopped growing a month ago at 5 months and seen every one had different experiences. The growth chart predicted Addie to grow to be 6.5lbs. She's 4.3lbs still. Hasn't grown over a month. But I still think she can have growth spurts and she may end up as predicted xx |
This is great information. Though at 18 weeks I wouldn't expect he'd get too much bigger? My old dog was 2 pounds at 6 weeks, and she grew to be 14 pounds. What did your pup weigh at 6 weeks? Funny, i have just had to order a second set of fleece sweaters, one size up. 3 weeks ago I had to cut up a sock as a sweater because he was too small for the first XS sweaters I bought. Mine is now 3.6 pounds at 12 weeks, all the charts say he will be between 7-8 pounds. He is a mix, but a mix of toy breeds. Boy did he sprout legs all of the sudden! I really want to get a good, heavy coat for him, but I imagine I do still need to wait another month at least. For now I am doubling up on sweaters. He doesn't seem to mind still looking like he is an orphan in the meantime :) |
Is that Moose in the photo? Omg.... BEST.EARS.EVER! |
