Yorkie Breeding My 8 pound 9 ounce female has come into hear again, and the male I have her with right now is about 2 pounds and some change. I wanted to knownis this possible for him to mate her or should I find a taller male because she a good bit taller than him. Side note: I brought her to him and he began mouthing her but his penis was about 2 inches short from her vulva. How likely is it this mating will be a success? Please help |
I am no expert on this subject and it seems neither are you. My advice would be to leave the breeding to the experts. There are so many things that can go wrong. Just enjoy your furbabies for who they are and they will bring you a lifetime of joy. |

breeding should ONLY be done to better the breed. Since your dog is not an excellent example of the breed because she is over the standard for weigh. You should not be breeding. You also could loose your dog by breeding her when you don't know what your doing. You also should never breed with out lots of health testing to make sure they are free of genetic illnesses. |
Hi - you shouldn't be breeding this pair not based upon the male size, but upon your female's size. The standard for the yorkie is 7 lbs or less - your girl is NOT considered within standard. If you care at all about this breed, you'd want to breed to the standard. Also, the fact you're asking this question tells me you don't have a mentor, nor have you had this breeding pair evaluated or health tested. Believe me please, there is SO MUCH more to breeding properly than you probably realize. People also don't seem to realize that they need to be willing to lose their female's life to this - as anything life threatening can and does happen during whelping. |
Ok, thank you. |
Aw, I'm no expert but your baby is only a little over 7lbs I'm sure anyone with a larger yorkie would tell you they really love their babies regardless of size. If you're breeding for shows maybe mum's weight being over is a potential problem however she could have all 'standard' sized pups. Besides there's every chance 2 'ideal' sized yorkies could have larger or smaller pups. I would get expert advice only to be sure my baby was safe and sound. Good luck in what you decide xx |
