Help GOOD EVENING YORKIE COMMUNITY, I have 2 yorkies, , one is 2 yrs and the other is 1year. The youngest is the one year old. Her name is Mindy, and she is my problem child. 1. she chews wood work 2. sometimes she will eat her poop 3. just plain destructive. Is there any suggestions of how I can break these bad habits? |
Welcome to YT! Mindy sounds like a spit fire! My first yorkie, Charlie, was a big chewer. He would have eaten the walls if we didn't provide him an alternative. Does she have chew toys or bones? 2. I've read that feeding them pineapple will discourage them from eating their poop. Not sure about this. Fortunately, this hasn't been a problem with mine yet. 3. More exercise? This can help burn off some of the destructive energy. |
I read somewhere that you should make shocked urgh sounds when they eat their poop. Weird them out over it I guess  no idea how to stop the chewing maybe more chew toys. Good luck xx |

Yours should outgrow this soon. You may need to put her in an x-type pen when she cannot be supervised closely. I feel for you. I have read that some people have luck with the spray deterrents. Today my Lexi is a sweet, loving, couch potato. Fortunately, Riley, who is now 14 months, never was destructive. A couple times that he did show interest in furniture, I just interested him in a chew toy & that was it. |
Hi and welcome. Give her lots of chews and keep her from being able to access the woodwork etc for a time, to break the habit. For poop eating, give Solid Gold's SEP (Stop Eating Poop). |
My first yorkie chewed the kitchen cabinets and I used an apple bitter it was in a tube. It was like Vaseline so I put that on and he never chewed again. My little Kinder here used to eat her poop but pineapple did the trick. I t took about a month and she never ate her poop again. As one of the others mentioned excercise and playtime to burn off some of that energy. Hope this helps. Susan |
Exercise!!!!!! Run her ragged! She's probably bored to tears. Really. They don't have opposable thumbs to entertain themselves so well. Lucky for me all three of mine were easy to break of that habit. |
