Max isn't exactly a North Dakota snow bunny! The girls love the first snowfall. Running, playing in the snow! But they are 10 and 12 lbs so have some meat on those bones. Max stands out side shivering! Then comes in to pee! I just him to our store in the mall and he was shivering so much from the cold he was making quivering sounds...poor baby. He was tucked in my sweatshirt and its 40 out so what us he going to do when it's 20 below zero! Don't care he's a boy, I'm making him a faux fur neck muff, fur leg warmers and figuring something for those Spock ears! I think a double layer sleep sack he can snuggle down in until the car warms up might work too. Anything else to keep him warm I'm missing? He had his NDSU bison sweatshirt on but probably needs a warmer jacket? |
Oh man, it's 60 degrees here tonight at 6:30, but I'm sitting here shivering after reading your post! I totally agree with your thoughts on his attire--then snuggle, snuggle, snuggle! Brrrrr...!!! |
It's 63 here in Seattle and I'm wrapped in a blanket. I'm not ready for the cold yet. |
Yikes the high tomorrow is 47.. The low 31. Better start sewing his outfit! Finally turned on the furnace today! I think winter is around the corner! |
Have you tried sweaters? |
Layering should help but you might have to buy him some shoes:p, seriously I have seen them for sale but I think Buddybear would have them off in 20 seconds. |

I've seen PJ's that cover up all the legs, but leave the "pee areas" open, you are cleaver, you might be able to do those out of the minky. Crazy groomer, did you fire her? |
It gets cold here on the mountain. I have a new city boy in my life, use to shoveled sidewalks lol, this will be his 3rd country winter with me. When it snows I shovel the deck, no shoveling of yard lol, so he pottys on the deck, he is 12# I just put a T-shirt on him as I keep him in a puppy cut, he goes out, does his thing and back in the house he comes. When we are going in the car I always warm up the car before I put him in it, and he does have his thermo coat (that he HATES). Start putting booties on him now in the house so he gets use to them, we have members living in Alaska their pups all wear boots in the snow, it's amazing when they post videos of their babies running in the snow wearing their booties, it's is as natural to them as not wearing them, you just have to get him used to something on their feet. I have a set for my boy, the first time I put them on him he stood like a frozen statue and never moved lol. |
Well, we live in Florida, so it's still 90 degrees here. But when it gets below 50 in January and February...my pups almost shiver to death! They wear sweaters and I warm the car up before I take them anywhere :D Also, they will not go on cold, wet grass. I just let them go on the patio :eek: |

Have you seen these disks that you heat in the microwave? I used to put one in their stroller so they could get warm after their walk. Also used to put it in their bed under blankets, in the car. It's a hard plastic disk but you put blankets over it. SnuggleSafe Microwave Heatpad|Cold Weather Essentials from DrsFosterSmith.com |
You might try making a rice bag out of 100% cotton fabric. You can microwave it for about a minute and it stays toasty warm for quite a while. It's cheaper than those plastic disk but does not stay as hot/warm for the same amount of time. That disk would be great for longer outings. |
