Sleeping and barking 1 Attachment(s) I have a ten month old male yorkie (Koda). He's such a smart little dog and so loving. He's currently going through training with a personal trainer, and he's perfect in almost every way. I have a couple issues though and wanted other opinions or advice. 1) When Koda is let outside he goes into a barking fit! both neighbors that I share a fence with have large labs. Koda goes nuts barking at them. So much so that I have to grab him and carry him inside because he won't stop. He has barked consistently for over an hour sometimes!! I don't know where this little dog gets it. He was such a quiet puppy, I used to brag about him being so good. But once he found his bark he hasn't stopped. 2) Sleep. Koda is being crate trained and has been successful for the past month and a half. The only problem I have is that he only sleeps for about 5-6 hours then he whines and barks until he is let out. I usually don't let him out, mostly because the 5-6 hour mark is when I get up. But on weekends, when I want a couple hours of extra sleep, it's impossible (and my fiancé is growing increasingly annoyed). Will he sleep more as he get's older? Is this just temporary? I'm just looking for some experienced yorkie owners as Koda is my first. :aimeeyork |
Awe! He's so cute!! I don't have much advice about the barking but I'm sure he would give you plenty more sleep if he was closer to you. They are very affectionate companions and love to be near their people. I think it's great that he even gives you the 5-6 HR stretch. I'd say he's just missing you after a longer period. Good luck! |
My Gidget is almost 9 months old and has been sleeping with me almost from day one. She would sleep for 2 or 3 hours and then wake up barking and whining. I finally put her in bed with me and since then we go to bed at 10:00 and sometimes I have to wake her up around 8:00 because I've got things to do and places to go. Yorkies like to be with their people and will snuggle and be as content as can be. Our little fur babies like to be close to us. |
Best thing I ever did was put Buddybear in bed with us. Your little man is protecting his yard, house, and You. Is he fixed? If not, his testosterone levels might be on high alert. He is affordable, just too cute for words.:D |
