8 Year Old Yorkie - 8 month Old Dachshund/Havanese Mix Behavior Issue Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and am glad I found you. I have a question. Two months ago we got Dachshund/Havanese (Maya) mix female (spayed). We brought her home because our 8 year old Yorkie (Moody) male (fixed) was becoming lethargic. It was absolutely wonderful. He spruced right up. They were great buds and were playing and having a great time with each other. Two days ago while she was at my feet, Moody attacked her and I had to separate them before they got hurt. Put them back on the floor and they got along just fine. Last night, he attacked her two times. This evening 5 times. I don't know what to do to stop his behavior. I get on the floor and they play with me but Moody has become very protective of us for no apparent reason. Any suggestions on how to rectify this behavior. I know it is my fault because they aren't looking at me or my wife as being alpha and behaving accordingly. I just concerned with letting them fight it out as Moody will be the one who gets hurt and I don't think that is the answer. Thanks for any help you can provide. |
Hi and welcome :)! These scuff-ups will happen...and I totally know what you mean. They happen in my house too. I would try a can of pennies or nails and shake it really hard when this happens to see if it interrupts the behavior - it may help. You could also buy the Bark Genie on Amazon (cheap) and try that as well. |
