Is she stubborn or just confused
 

I got Gidget in early March when she was 7 wks. My husband had passed away so it was just the 2 of us. She used pee pads until she had all her shots then we started going outside. In July I decided to go back to the pee pads b/c I didn't want us to have to worry about going outside when the weather was bad. Last winter I was stuck in the house for 4 days b/c my deck and front porch were both covered in sleet, snow and then more sleet. Knew this would be a problem with Gidget. She was doing fairly well until we had to move out of the house and stay with my daughter, sil, and 65# lab mix and I started taking her outside. I had already tried crating her but she went ballistic. About a month ago I purchased the puppy apartment and blocked off the bedroom section since she sleeps with me. She was beginning to catch on and last week daughter and sil went on vacation for a week but left lab here with us. She would either go to the bathroom section and do her business or she would let me know when she needed to go and I would take her by her leash and lead her into the bathroom. Family got back from vacation Sat. Today, Gidget stood right between my legs just 2 feet from door into bathroom and peed right there. Hopefully in the next 2-3 months we'll be moving into our own place. Is Gidget confused by all the changes and what should I do to help her adjust to using the bathroom?

I agree with you, I think she is just a little confused. Continue trying to be as consistent as humanly possible if you can.

I will tell you this - I pad trained my dogs and it's something I regret SO much...will never, ever do it again if possible. Wish they were all outside-only trained. I think it's very confusing for many dogs to be indoor pad trained. It works great for some, no doubt about it...but it's been confusing for mine.

Thank you for responding to my post. I agree with you that outside is the best way but sometimes circumstances make it necessary to do the inside training. I'm 76 and in extremely good health but taking her outside is not a good option for me. Slipping on wet grass or a snow covered slippery walkway is something I have to consider. I intend for us to grow old together and that means taking extra precautions. You're right. I think I'm taken her into a state of confusion. Once we get moved and we can get into our own little routine and our own little space, I think she'll do just fine. In the meantime, I'll just keep working at it and being extra patient with her.
