Compound theophylline Hi. This is my first post; I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct place. My senior yorkie has been on extended release Theophylline for the past year. She tolerated it well. Unfortunately it is no longer available. She was then prescribed a form of Theophylline made by a compounding pharmacy. It is an immediate release medication. My yorkie did not tolerate it well at all and we stopped the drug. We are considering Aminophylline as a replacement. It is also an immediate release drug but we hope our little girl will tolerate it better. Has anyone else's doggy had a bad reaction to the compounded Theophylline? Thank you in advance. |
There are still a couple strengths of Extended release THeophylline available. Have you just been having your vet order it? What strength were you using? You may want to call pharmacies nearby you to see what strengths they have in stock or see if they can check with their wholesalers and get you some in. |
The extended release pills were 100 mg. We cut them into 4 so Little Dog was getting 25 mg twice a day. The compounded capsules we now have are 25 mg each and are immediate release. The vet said to cut the dose to 12.5 mg but Little Dog did not tolerate that dose either. I had not thought of calling around to different pharmacies and thank you for the suggestion. I just went by the vet's word and my regular pharmacy. Wish us luck. :) |
Compounding Theophylline Hi, I know that this is quite delayed, but BCP Veterinary Pharmacy (bcpvetpharm.com) makes a great compounded Theophylline and it is very well tolerated. Their prices aren't too bad either. |
