Barking insanely I know I have posted alot about my Bentley but every time I turn around its something. I have a sliding glass door in my living room with a curtain but there is no way I can fix it to keep Bentley from looking out. He use to just lay their quietly looking out but here recently every person, dog, child, pinecone, leaf that moves he goes historical. Running all over the house from room to room up on Furniture etc barking nonstop....seems like hours! My house is so small living area and kitchen combo then bedrooms so there is no place for us to go except couped up in a bedroom for the day! HELP...Does anyone gave any suggestions |
Sounds like your Bentley and my Cody are related. No Patio door here, low window that I "mommy dearest" thought how wonderful it would be if Cody could look out of the window. So I had a small bench made for him. BIG mistake, he has ripped out the curtain brackets with his scratching and digging at the window and insane barking for the same reason's your Bentley does, then goes tearing through the house like your Bentley, I also have living room / kitchen combo, small house lol. But hey, he's doing his job, protecting his family and home. No suggestions how to stop it, I let my boy do his thing lol. |
What about some coloured plastic like a plastic table cloth (just plastic no backing ) cut to how high that it would block his view. Wet the glass and put the plastic on it should cling to the glass if that doesn't work just a card board box in front of the glass you should still have half of the window free for light . We had to do this to a mirror door. |
Have you tried any bark deterrents with Bentley -- pennies in a can, a party horn, compressed air cans that make a hiss, or the ultrasonic device that only dogs can hear? Some people have had luck training with these, using keywords like "quiet, "no bark," or "settle down." Some YT members have also used spray bottles with water to effectively train. Having a daily routine may also help: meals at the same time, brief play breaks or performing tricks for treats. My boys know that they get a big outing after dinner (ride to the park and long walk) and that helps calm them during the day. There are some triggers that my boys are hopeless with -- the garbage truck, delivery trucks, and dogs walking by. I let them bark a little, but then I tell them to "settle down." If they don't listen, I announce that I'm leaving the room and I go where they can't follow. Or I redirect them to performing a few tricks for kibble rewards and they settle down. |
Piper is permitted to bark at odd noises, someone at door, and such, but when she barks at someone walking past or other innocuous things, she gets a stern "no bark!" Sometimes I have to clap my hands along with the 'no bark,' but she understands when her barking is inappropriate. It's a challenge for sure and I like Maximo's suggestions of coins-in-a-can, etc., as sometimes they just need to be jolted back to reality (as it were)!! |

I would try the Bark Genie (Amazon or wherever) - it's a little miracle for some kiddos! |
