Help! Anna is becoming a pee nightmare!
 

She is around 9-12 years old. We really don't know. We got her from a rescue/shelter 3.5 years ago. They said she was around 6. But they didn't know. My vet said she looked to be around 9 or 10. I don't really know why he guessed that age.

She was not potty trained even a little bit. She had been kept in a cage before the shelter got her, terrified of grass for a long time.

After about 6 months of hard work, she would go outside to pee. I keep pads in the house that she uses also. But over the past few months, she's been going all over the place at night. During the day, she's fine.

She usually stands guard at night by sitting on the top of the couch and staring at our living room door. Then, around 4 am she comes to bed.

Hubs and I are very much against putting her in a kennel at night. But we would also like to avoid having to replace the floors in our house.

I have diapers for her, but they fall off.

I have been considering putting her in the laundry room with a baby gate--it's an open doorway to the kitchen. I would only do this during the night. Hubby doesn't like this idea. It has tile floor. But I would cover half of it with pee pads and put her food and bed in the other half.

Any suggestions?

If/when there is a sudden change in peeing habits, there really could be something wrong. If this were my kiddo, I'd get her checked asap for UTI/bladder issue, diabetes, and I'd for sure rule out Cushings, no matter how random that may sound...

Definitely check for a uti and if that's not the issues you might want to look at using a playpen it gives them more room then a crate and feels less confining.

I will take her by the vet Tuesday. However, I'm not really sure I would call it a change in the amount of urine. She's always been a pee-er. She is just going all over the place instead of on her pads. She may need to go back to potty training boot camp.

Taylor, we have a play pen, but it will be harder on my hubs for her to be in it than it will be Anna. He cannot stand for her to look sad, not even for a second. I may pull it out today and start her on a schedule for a bit to see if it refreshes her memory.

Sometimes you have to start over with potty training. Yorkies can be stubborn lol.

I'm sorry, this made me LOL. I'm still doing so. Not because I don't believe you, but because you're SO right.

I just rescued two 8 month old yorkie mix pups that had spent the first 8 months of their lIves in a puppy mill. I thought they would be terrified of a crate. But I put one in the kitchen and they both love to go in there and sleep. If we have to go out, all we have to do is ask them to get in the crate. They will come running from wherever they are, get in the crate and lay down. For some reason the crate seems to give them comfort. We have a soft pad on the floor, a couple of little blankets in there so they can make little nests, and a water bottle in there for them. It is probably a little bit of heaven for them compared to what they were used to. Maybe if you just set up a crate, your little one might actually like it. Just a thought.

They make diapers/panties with suspenders. I have seen them on Amazon and Etsy.

I saw those also. I think I might give them a try just to see. I worked on the laundry room all day today trying to organize it to make her a comfy bedroom. I feel like she won't mind it too bad, but my husband is already sad. I know he would be much happier if we could find a diaper solution that would work.

I know what you mean. I tried training my three to sleep in their own beds instead of ours, and it was Scott that broke the training cause he can't stand for Izzy to be the least bit upset. Ugh

Yup! My hubs is a big ole softy when it comes to Anna. Thank goodness. I wouldn't have him any other way.

Awww that's sweet....I hope those work for you. She will be happier as well....they love being with their people.

Check for UTI, bladder stones and/or crystals.
I use washable diapers with bladder pads in them for my one girl (any time I let her in my room because she will mark everything)

While waiting for her "suspender pants" to come in from Amazon, I went ahead and put her in a velcro cloth diaper with a pad last night. I also put Willie in a band, which he will now wear unless we are outside (I swear he would mark my leg if I stood still long enough).

I can't find the diaper anywhere this morning. But....she had no puddles in the floor and the pee pad was used.

Hopefully I will find the diaper before bedtime so I can use it again this evening. It's probably under the bed. Barney likes to hide anything he finds under there.

LOL I feel your pain. I have a pup who loves to chew up the pads...makes me crazy....she shreds them and that "sand" in the incontinence pads is a MESS.
