Let me start by saying that I agree, tinies can be in excellent health, and play and do all the normal yorkie things. They shouldn't ALL be classified as unhealthy by any means. If there are 2 yorkies though, one 7lb and a 2lb and they both fall of the bed or couch and break a leg...If they both need surgery, the 7lber has a good chance of doing fine under anesthesia. Whereas a 2 lb yorkie going under anesthesia is much more dangerous and probably harder to repair their bone injury. That's one of the things that would be scary to me...By no means does it mean that I wouldn't own a tiny and it doesn't mean they're unhealthy, just a bit more fragile as far as that's concerned. It's obvious that one would have to be a bit more careful with them. I also agree with what was said about breeding for tinies...That is not a practice that I support at all. If you want a tiny, get one from a standard female. |
When I purchased Mac he was suppose to be approx 5 lbs fully grown. Mac is just shy of 3lbs. at 1 1/2. When he was 3 months Mac was very sick as many of you know. The Neurologist suggested that he be put to sleep. I just couldn't do it. Now, for the most part Mac is just perfect. Mac plays hard, loves to rough house and is just as healthy as, Mellie who weighs 4 1/2 lbs. ( which I still think is tiny). My only concern is their jumping. I think that a Yorkie at any size is still a very small dog and all of them, for the most part, are fragile and do need to be watched around small children. I do however, agree about the explotation of the tinies, especially when people are intentionally breeding smaller dogs, to get an even smaller baby. I think that intentionally putting the Mom in such danger is criminal and abusive. |
