Excessive Peeing...When is it too much
 

How do you determine what is too much peeing? I am trying to keep an eye on Boomer as his kidney level was high. He has pee pads so he uses them whenever he needs to and doesn't feel the need he needs to wait I also take him out at least 1-3 times a day and he also pees.




There are days I can come home and the pee pads are not used. Other days he goes multiple times and I need to change them. (Usually when I am home and he is not resting he will go more) This has been his routine since I got him. He does not have an UTI. There is also no blood in the urine as I have had it tested.


I don't think his thirst is excessive. He drinks when he is thirsty and its usually for only a few seconds unless he is coming in from a walk.


Also, he hasn't had any significant weight loss he ranges between 12 -13.5 pounds on average

Good question. I'm not sure if I would know if my guys were peeing too much. When we are outdoors, they like to mark everything. Indoors, they use the pad often to earn rewards.

I suppose that I would judge based on how much is on the pad, if it is more than usual. If one of them started peeing lakes on the pad consistently, numerous times a day, then I would be concerned.

Excessive peeing can be one of *the* most common signs of Cushings...so I'd just recommend you skim over what Cushings looks like in dogs since the symptoms can be so very diffuse/systemic - and this is so often misdiagnosed by vets bc of this.

Thanks I have looked it over. Right now the vet just wants to monitor Boomer for the next three months and repeat the blood work. His CRE and Urine Gravity were both elevated from last years blood work. He said if in three months time it is even higher we will do more testing and switch the diet.


I tried asking him what he felt was excessive peeing but because they use pee pads its hard for me to tell how often they go as I am not always home and both my dogs use the pads. I am now monitoring them from my camera. I don't think he goes excessively in my opinion but I am no expert. He always goes on his walk and then will mark throughout the walk. On the pee pad my best guess would be that he goes 5X a day but I could be over estimating that as well.


Drinking doesn't seem excessive as he only goes for a couple sips and does not slurp his water down at all unless coming back from a long walk.


I just think I am more worried about it as I tend to be protective of my babies. These three months are going to stress me out. I trust my doctor and think he knows what he is doing. Its just a wait and see period we are in. I just emailed my vet to see if he can clarify too much peeing for me?
