Average sleep for a yorkie How much sleep should an older puppy get per day, and what is the average adult time to sleep? I see so many answers on google. 16. 18. 12. 14. She came home exhausted from doggy day care, and they said that they sleep so much at home, so they really work on making them good and tired. That got me looking again. Chewie is a fantastic sleeper- 6-8 hours, morning ball and food, then talking and hanging out with us for 2-5 hours, then a long nap ( my MS if progressing so I get tired easily) with me from 12-3, then a cat nap between 6-8, and then bedtime at midnight. Yes, I know the vet would have answers, but I know each breed is different. |
1 Attachment(s) Well, it's not like you can force 'em to sleep more...I think our little ones manage to get plenty of sleep throughout any given day/night; it's just difficult for me to imagine a sleep-deprived or insomniac Yorkie! I'm not making fun of your question, really...I just know that Piper drops off at the drop of a hat and hits the ground running within seconds of being awake! Abilities that I envy greatly and wish I possessed! |
I actually worry more about too much sleeping and not enough moving/go/play time. whatever you want to call it. I don't think you are making fun of me at all! I didn't really want to go into a loooooooonnng post but yeah, it's more about too much, not enough moving around sort of thing |

All babies need their sleep---lots and lots of sleep; their little selves are just changing so much everyday! Piper does 'angry' real well, too. Gives me that look (we're all very familiar with it) and under the couch she goes, reappearing occasionally to drive home the point that she's still unhappy with me; plus she knows it bothers me that she's down on the hard ol' floor and I won't truly be able to sit on couch and relax until she deems me worthy of forgiveness, yet again, and hops up onto one of her pillows. Geez! |
Thank you! I saw 15-17 hours a day today in quite a few places, and I couldn't help but think that's a LOT of sleep!!! I have to remember she is still a baby, regardless of her being 10 months old. I do think she doesn't get enough exercise but it truly is way too hot for her. I'm trying to decide if I should take her into the doggie daycare to make up for that until around December. that look they give is awesome, isn't it?! I love the one where their heads go up like a stuck up aristocrat, and then you see their little mouth kinda thin out even more. cracks me up. |
...And then as they sashay away, they'll glance back over their shoulder with a "...Yeah, you'd like to think you're in charge..." kinda look! I can almost picture Pipe, paws over ears...nahnahhhnahnahhnahh, can't hear you... |
Mine sleep a lot and they are around 5-6 years old. They usually play in the kitchen for about 30- 60 minutes when I am at work and then sleep until the dog walker comes in the afternoon. Then they may play a little and then go back to sleep. When I come home we play but by 8-9 pm they are resting again. My older one Thumper does not always sleep through the night and will get up and move from the bed to the couch multiple times in the evening. I think it is because he gets so much sleep during the day. My two are just couch potatoes they would rather lay right next to me than play with their toys |

I would say Emma (2.5 yrs) sleeps all day. She gets 3-4 walks a day, will play with my daughter for a maybe 15 minutes after school. I work from home so if I'm up doing things she's underfoot, if I'm at the desk she's sleep in her bed. I would imagine that she's sleeping 16-20 hours a day. |

My boys are the same way. They sleep, or rest, until something exciting happens and then they are ready to go. As they grow older, they do need their beauty sleep at night. :D If we have a long night, Max in particular can be groggy the next day. |
