Yorkie Puppy Hello all, I am new on here and on the hunt for a good Yorkie breeder. I had a male Yorkie who passed this April and now I am looking for a female to keep me company. I am in the Westchester, NY area and am looking for breeders in the NYC/NJ/CT areas that are close to home. I've come across a few scammers in Brooklyn, NY and definitely do not want to buy from people who are not fit to sell puppies. Thank you in advance! :animal36 :animal-pa |
Welcome to YT. I am formally from NY, The Bronx, you are wise to stay away from Bklyn, there are several brokers in that boro, they buy their puppies from puppy mills. My adopted boy is from Rockaway, he was purchased from a broker in Bklyn. If you search in Pa. be very, very, careful as Pa. is filled with puppy mills. Sorry I cannot suggest any tri-state breeders. Hopefully other members can help in that area. Good luck in your search for that perfect lil companion. |
Thank you so much. The sad part with the same breeder that I encountered is going by different names and have 91 complaints in consumer affairs. |
Sorry for your loss Welcome to YT |
Thanks I had him for 13 years and my home has been lonely w/o him. I am ready now for opening my heart to a little female yorkie. |
Thanks...I had my dog for 13 years and my home is very lonely w/o him. I want to buy a female puppy now. |

Be careful in the tri-state area, a lot of BYB (back yard breeders) you may have have to widen your search for a reputable breeder. Have you asked your vet if he / she knows of any in your area? watch out for words like TINY, TEACUP, these are red flags for breeding below standard size yorkies, breeding for tiny's which you want to stay away from. |
I know it's sad that they have a puppy store. I have been asking people who have Yorkies since sometimes through word of mouth you can find a good breeder. I found a good breeder but her prices are double than what I wanted to spend. Thanks for the advice. |
You know how the saying goes "ya get what ya pay for". Reputable breeders invest money in their breeding pair, check back many generations to ensure there are no genetic issues that puppies will inherit, offer you a good heath guarantee, keep puppies until they are 13 weeks old. If I were looking to buy a puppy from reputable breeder in Trii-State area I would expect to pay $2000. to $2500. with a damm good health guarantee. NY area is very expensive. If a local breeder was recommended, see what she offers with her puppies as far a health guarantee ,some will give 1st puppy shot also. Asking ppl with yorkies in your area is a good way to go. Also I am not saying the more money you spend the better a yorkie you will get. The breeder must be researched before purchasing their pup. I would NOT buy a pup based on how much I could / want to spend. You could end up paying much more down the road in health issues. Just food for thought. |
I have heard there is a good breeder in CT, she is listed on the Yorkie club site. I forget her name though, sorry. Good luck! I couldn't find anyone local in NY who was reputable both times when I was looking, but they must exist ... |
The Jenks in Connecticut are supposed to be excellent breeders. I'm sure there are other breeders in the tri-state area who are excellent, as well. I've heard good things about Susan Hertz of Let's Talk Yorkies, but I don't know personally anyone who got a puppy from her. Good luck finding your baby. Purchasing from a good breeder who breeds for health and temperament makes all the difference in the world.
