Hair, any one new please be careful There are new people on the boards like me, so I hope this helps someone else. I won't get into all the details, but Chewie wasn't acting like herself until late last night for the last 3 days. I chalked it up and was HOPING it was from all of our routine changes, but, she had a BM today and my daughter's hair was all through it. she's taller than I am with waist length hair. This is despite frequent vacuums and attempts to keep it up. She's been scooting, and has had to have her adrenal glands cleared. off and on. They would be full but not bursting. OCCASIONALLY she had thin bms a few times and once threw up a tiny hair ball. That was months ago. I have to get pumpkin, but she's now being playful, eating normally, and not so sleepy. I hope this information helps someone. I did everything told, but apparently even one day with it getting tangled in her hair (the ball) was enough to mess up her digestive system. |
I've come to accept it as unavoidable here. My better half has waist length hair, it gets everywhere. Sometimes our pups have danglers hanging from a hair out their bum. Never noticed that they had a health change from it, it just happens, rarely. |
These little guys can have sensitive tummies. If I'm not careful with what Duchess eats, she gets colitis. She is on a strict limited ingredient diet. Glad your little one is okay. |

Jenny, YT member Mimimomo, one of her little boys vomited a sizeable hair ball! She posted a photo here to show how dangerous hair eating can be. The hair can cause a blockage. My boys are naughty and like to eat hair and fuzzies too. Teddy recently ate a dry piece of grass that was over 12 inches long. It came out the other end. He lost his voice for a day and I think it was because of the grass. Big belly ache too. :( Yorkies! |

I need to find the picture; Chewie was super sick for most of the day with that hair ball, and it was only the size of-maybe- half of a quarter that she threw up. the member mimimomo's little guy must have been just in agony. |

Here is Jenny/Mimimomo's thread about her boy Momo's hair ball ordeal. Keep in mind, Momo is very small. Warning, the photo is not for the squeamish. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ize-mouse.html |
Hair can be more deadly to a small dog than to a cat. A few years ago a very sad Yorkie owner posted of the death of her bday due to a hair ball he ingested that caused an intestinal blockage. As far as human hair goes, all we can do is vacuum frequently and try to only comb and brush our hair in one area and keep it cleaned up. Even my old vacuum had trouble dealing with all the long human hair. Our dogs are so close to the floor that they have a whole different world view than we do with so many different things that can get them into trouble. |
All I can advise, from past experience is: vacuum, sweep, swiffer, mop, clean...I so wish I had a roomba but so scared it's going to run over poop. LOL Quote:
I had to pull out a very long leaf w/ stem fm Momo's behind once. I was disgusted (bc it was covered in poop), flabbergasted (bc it was so dang long), amazed (that he survived) & relieved (that he didn't die) all @ the same time! |
