Fleas
 
I found a flea or 2 on my little guy so i picked up a medication from my vet called comfortis. How long should i not see any more fleas. I wasnt seeing alot to begin with ive only seen 2 but i washed everything and vacuumed like crazy and its been about 5 hrs since he took the chewable. My question is since I washed everything already and i still see a flea do i need to keep washing everything over and over until there are no fleas left? The medication says it should kill everything from 98-100% in 4hrs but i just saw one. Ughhh someone fill me in!

I would keep vacuuming and washing regularly, but not tonight. :) The Comfortis should kill the fleas on your pup and prevent them from laying eggs, but some could still be in your home and can jump onto your pup.

I have used Comfortis in the past on my now passed girl and worked very well. Comfortis comes in two formulas. One kills adults fleas, the other formula kills, larva, eggs,baby and adult fleas, which one did you get. Continue to vacuum, empty the vacuum outdoors into a plastic bag, tie the bag and throw it in your outdoor trash. Empty your vac every time you use it and do this as above instructions, reason, live fleas can jump out of the vac while you are emptying it so you want to do this outside your home. Continue washing her bedding and what ever she uses to sleep on. I also buy a couple packages of flea collars, I cut them into 5 or 6 inch strips, I wedge them in between my sofa cushions for flea/ tick prevention. I change them after 3 months and use fresh ones. I do this the beginning of every Spring and remove after first hard freeze.

Oh that's so smart, matese! Maybe I'll do the same with the flea collars in the sofa and maybe under his dog bed.

Its the chewable comfortis(spinosad). They didnt give me 2 options. Well they had a chewable or topical but said they did the same thing.

I had read up on Comfortis and knew there were two options, when I went to my vets office to pick it up I specified which one I wanted (kills all stages) It has been a couple of years since I had used them, it's very possible they only sell for all stages now.

If you have a mischievous puppy I suggest putting the flea collar strips DEEP between the cushions so puppy cannot get at them. I wouldn't use it under a dogs bed, my concern would be the dog would put it in their mouth. Some years back Hartz mountain flea collars were making dogs very sick, some even died. I had been using them for years. I stopped using anything made by Hartz when it hit the media Hartz flea collars caused illness or death. Now I only use the flea collar for stuffing between sofa cushions.

I agree, I wouldn't risk putting a flea collar anywhere the pup might get to it. My boys would definitely dig it out of couch cushions. We can't leave anything within reach of the doggies.

I agree with all of the measures maltese posted. I sometimes use scented moth balls in my vacuum to kill any eggs I may have missed when I emptied it outside.
The vacuum is your best device against fleas. I use a flea comb after taking my pets outside. Before they come back it a quick flea combing is a good say to prevent them from carrying their riders inside.

use flea busters, you will hardly ever see a flea, it is based out of seattle the best stuff ever

flea busters is the best thing, I have it done every year. I rarely use flea meds.

I have never heard of flea busters. What is it and where do you buy it?
