Best collar for little necks I've been using a small cat collar on Gidget because her neck is so tiny. Now I need to attach her microchip tag, her rabies tag and id tag. It seems all that would be too heavy for a small cat collar. What do you use for your little fur babies. |
I only use a lightweight aluminum ID tag on a thin collar for everyday in the house (just in case my little Ziva escapee gets out- used once!)The other tags are kept on the harnesses they wear when the go out officially;). My two have matching collars and harnesses from Coastal pets lil' pals line. They are light, thin and no sharp edges. We have such hot weather the girls don't like the built up harnesses. We have had a set of silk collar/harness from Chatties mom here on YT and highly recommend them! |
Me personally I would not use a collar. Course, my guy is unruly. I don't want him getting choked or hurting his neck. I take him out for car rides all the time and he literally pulls me to the car |
My boy Jackson is much bigger at 18lbs so he wears many different types of collars just for looks and tags. I don't keep any tags on his collar though except his one name tag (we have Fetching Tags). Rabies tag and microchip tag stays on my key ring. |

the collar is just for her tags. I use a Puppia harness for walks. |
Do you keep all tags on collar? Seems like it would be quite heavy for our litle ones with rabies, id, lost pet tags, etc. What do you do? |
I use an extra-small Orvis nylon embroidered collar for ID purposes: Personalized Dog Collars / Personalized Adjustable Dog Collar -- Orvis Bella can't wear tags on her collar--she chews and obliterates the information. Between the embroidered collar and her microchip, I think she's adequately covered. I keep her rabies certificate and tags in a special drawer at home should I ever need them. So far, I've only needed them as proof of vaccination for groomers. |
Buddybear wears a cat collar with his tags but he is over 8 lbs. I went to a larger cat collar so it would come off if he got hooked up on anything but he also wears a harness when we leave the house. I am no help with tiny dogs but are all those tags really necessary all the time??? |
Only harnesses. No collar on Yorkies. I'm afraid they will get it caught on something. |
One of my Yorkies is 3 pounds. I got him a kitten collar from Petco, it is extremely thin. Then I got a tag that I sewed on so it doesn't hang. He also has a hanging tag the size of a dime that fits our 2 cell phone numbers. It's very light and small. I keep collars on mine for identification (they are also microchipped). When I take them out on a leash I put harnesses on them and attach the leash to the harness. |
In addition to microchips, mine have collars for their tags. I have only 1 tag on each of them - I don't have them wear their rabies or chip tag - just ID tag. I get my small collars at Chloes Collars - love them! |
I'm having a hard time finding one small enough. Most xs are 8-10 inches. Her neck is barely 6 inches. Any suggestions? |

I like the yellow dog design collars they are pretty soft and not to thick I get mine from Shop Dog Collars, Tags and Leashes | Dog Collar Boutique. I won't get anything thicker then 3/8". |
I use a lightweight, quick release cat collar with a tiny lightweight tag. my babies are 3.7 and 4.2 pounds - |
