What I learned the last 3 weeks with Max Max just turned 10 weeks old..boy time flies! I forgot how much work puppies are. Not sure how anyone with a "real" job does it. I own a business with my daughter and we sew all day long. Husband does craft shows on the weekends so I'm home with Max all the time. What I learned the last 3 weeks: 1. Puppies don't sleep thru the night. Be prepared to exhausted! He goes out around 1am, 4:00 and 8:00. 2. hates to be crated! Slept with us barricaded between us. Then slowly worked to get him in a 3'x3' gate play yard. Seems content and wakes me when he wants to go outside. 3. He isn't a picky eater..loves his kibble, his wet food, the cats wet food (it's a game to see if he gets there before me) the cats dry food. His sisters wet food and kibble too! Now loves sharing my morning toast too! 3 dogs and me all sharing toast. 4. Learned he whines, cries and carries on if I leave the room or the house! so haven't grocery shopped for 3 weeks. Better outgrow this soon! Was loading up the trailer outside and he was upstairs. We could hear him all the way outside. 5. Catching on to potty training but if I give him too much area to play in I can't catch him before he pees on the floor. Thank goodness it's hardwood flooring. 6. Learned he can't stand his feet in wet grass. Pees on the sidewalk in the middle of the night. What's he going to do when we have 2 feet of snow? I'm going to have to sew a parka and snow shoes for him 7. Loves pig ears... But his sister keep stealing them from him. They will occupy him so he settles down for his naps. 8. Learned Yorkies are fragile! He's 2.5 lbs and his legs are smaller than a chicken wing! Afraid I'll roll over him in my chair! 9. Learned he is the most lovable, intelligent social butterfly I've ever known. And glad he is part of our family but in the back off my mind I think he needs a family with kids or other dogs that will play with him 😕 He loves when our 6 yr old grandson comes over to play...or when he gets play dates. I think he would be happier playing all day than sitting under my chair waiting for me to play with him. Once he's older it will be a great life for him. |
Lol....yup, you indeed are having yourself a full-fledged puppy experience :p! You totally get it. Try not to worry too much about him needing a different family, etc - all puppies are basically nutballs and have a ton of energy, lol. Just make sure to engage / play with him and socialize him, and he'll be great. :) |
As you already said, he wants to be with you all of the time, so when he is with you, he's happy cuz you're his joy in life. Anything and everything else you provide (playdates with grandchildren, other pups, and so forth) is simply extra fun and wonderful socialization! Congratulations---order a pizza in lieu of groceries, 'sides you shouldn't drive when sleep deprived! Enjoy your energetic baby!! |
I haven't had a puppy in years, (Didi & Abby I got at 5 yrs old, Chloe was 2yrs old) it all sounds very familiar though. None of my Yorkies liked wet grass, wet cement or snow, if you put them on it they would not move or do thier business. When its wet outside or in the winter Chloe is pee pad trained. And yes, all my yorkies love toast and they also know when it is toast time and let me know. Congrats on your new furbaby. |
My husband snow blows the grass for the shiz tzus 😀 Since they are short and sink in all the snow! I sew for a living for babies so lots of scraps around...so he will get snowboots and a winter jacket sewn for him. Working on his camo harness tonight. We got Emma in Feb and she was piddle pad trained 😕. I thought of sewing some washable pads to use outside on the ground so he doesn't get confused come spring and refuse to go outside. We'll see how that goes once the snow flies. |
Lol, puppy hood is for younger than me, not really. Buddybear is just 2 and I am turning 66 )boy that sounds old) but I can't imagine life without him. You might try cow ears as they are sooooooo much less greasy than the other. |
Hahaha that was great. |
Sounds like you're having loads of fun! |
Welcome to the neighborhood my friend... enjoy!! |
Oh how I remember and MISS those puppy days, I LOVE puppies, but, my rescue came to me at 2.5 yo, house broken, knew a few commands, it was wonderful to not pad train then house break, get all the stereo wires off the floor, puppy proof the house lol. Enjoy these puppy days they grow so fast. |
