Grazing yorkie So every time I take my yorkies out one of them seems to graze..... He gravitates to the green grass .... He's 1yr 5 mos. He weighs 4 lbs I have read before that this is not harmful but actually good for them but today he was all about grazing and I read that it may be a lack in fiber? Any thoughts? He eats Simply Nourish Grain Free Small Breed Adult Food Steamed carrots, chicken breast and grain free Bicen/blueberry grain free meat from pets mart..... Thoughts? Suggestions? |
My girl is a grazer, she is 3.5 years old, has always been a grazer. Blows my mind! Doesn't throw up afterwards (I had always thought Before that if a dog ate grass it meant they had to throw up) and t does not seem to effect her stool or her negatively. So I suppose, some dogs are just grass grazers? |
My yorkies are grazers also. I have no grass in my backyard right now but when we go to the park, they will lay there and eat the grass. I think it's cute. My boy will aim for the top of the grass and sometimes that grass is tall.☺☺☺ |
Buddybear is a grazer also. I feed the birds and the seeds they don't eat are sprouting. He tries to get the green leaves through the chain link fence. |
Same here guys I thinks it's natural for a dog to eat grass. As long as my dog are okay, there's no worry for me. |

What if they eat the grass and then go to town on the soil/dirt? I always worry they'll get sick :( |

What to do about low iron, if that's the case? |
Just be careful, in my development they spray chemicals on the grass.....I think they use trugreen. |
I read it's natural just be careful of chemicals etc. Luckily, my fur baby isn't a grazer. Good luck and happy trails... |
My boy likes to graze a little, he prefers helping me weed. I loosen the weed, he pulls it out with his teeth...super cute! Except that I have to be really sneaky about putting new plants in, because those get pulled right out. |

hmm we've always had grazing dogs, especially our past yorkies. So far as I know Kimchi almost never grazes but we treat her to greens as we have with our past furbabies to reduce their grazing modes. What we basically do is feed them lettuce or leafy greens (like romaine, spinach, etc.), mostly. They love the crunch bases of the lettuce. We find that when we give them greens, they seem less inclined to want to eat the grass as much. But of course, if they prefer the taste of grass, then there's not much else for it but you may try getting that pet "grass" that they normally sell for cats (wheatgrass). We also tried this method with some good results as well, we just hadn't kept up with it ^^;; |
Pet grass is a good idea. Lilahs favorite treats are carrots, string cheese and cucumbers but she also really likes peas and green beans- she is like a veggie dog! Lol. Maybe that has something to do with it? |
It just might be the case, if a dog loves vegetation then they just may have been blessed by the cow fairy lol My girl loves carrots, lettuce, broccoli, and them steam mixed veggies, I'd sprinkle just little herbal seasoning that's doggie safe. Water chestnuts, even. The only time I've seen her kind of snub a veggie is if she's not in the mood for it. Now she's more picky about fruit, cant' be too tart and just sweet enough and I find that texture is a big thing for her, as well as flavor (she will not eat a blackberry as is). I found out the hard way when I was one time making a batch of my fresh mix berry yogurt pops and didn't strain the fruit puree. I didn't think to strain it since I only used blueberry and strawberry that time, but it left the popsicle gritty in texture (though tasted good). Neither me nor her cared for the texture at all, so had to toss out the batch X.x The first one I made I did strain (had used strawberry, blueberry and blackberry) yogurt to make frozen pops. When I first made them I pureed and strained the berry mix into a no/low fat & no sugar yogurt and added a touch of honey to sweeten. I had strain it at the time because I knew blackberries were very seedy and didn't want her getting them stuck in her teeth, etc. She loved it, but unfortunately the next few attempt to create different variations didn't work until I went back to doing it like the first, lol. One was an apple juice pop (I had juiced different apples including Granny Smith for added tart), the apple flavor was too strong for her until I had to suck out the apply juice some and leave it a tad more icy with light apple taste and she loved it that way (might try adding water to it next time). Then as mentioned, not straining the berries, she really didn't like that. This latest batch was strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. So yea, I made sure to strain them this time ^^;; She loved it again lol Straining the berry puree is more tedious, but the result is my girl loving it ^^ Her favorite lately is the steamed veggies, sometimes even more so when lightly seasoned with herbs or if I want to get her to eat her dry food. She loves steamed green beans and it makes her dry food more appetizing as she'll eat it without us hand feeding it to her lol |
Ha ha ha! Oh I love the Popsicle escapades! My girl is really sensitive about her fruit preferences too and much more off and on- one day watermelon is yummy the next day no, lol! I love it! |
A grazer Toby is a grazer too and his favorite is cucumber leaves from our garden. |
