Babysitting a female who is not spayed My friends asked me to babysit their 1 year old female Yorkie while they go on vacation. She is actually the littermate of one of my boys. Both of my boys are neutered so I know I don't have to worry about them getting her pregnant. But I've heard dogs that aren't fixed are more likely to fight. Is this something I would have to worry about? Also are my boys going to be harassing her (I've heard the females that aren't spayed give off w scent that attracts males)? They've only been around her once for like 5 minutes in the year since I brought home my males and they brought her home. |
I think the fighting would be more geared toward 2 unspayed females if they were together, or 2 unfixed males. Most likely, her situation won't cause fighting. It's tough to say where she is in her "cycle" so therefore it'd be tough to say as to whether she'd provoke any scent-related behavior. Can you do a couple hour play date or something before their trip so you can do a trial run...? |
Thanks. I'm going to try to set up a trial run but it seems our schedules always conflict :( the one time they were together for 5 minutes they did ok but I know 5 minutes isn't really enough time to predict how they'll get along. One my mine wanted to play with her. She didn't seem to care either way lol. My other one (who was actually her littermate) just stayed away from her. |
Females in heat will attack males that show a special kind of interest in them while in heat until the perfect time when they are ready to mate, otherwise boys need to just stay away. |
