Purebred? 2 Attachment(s) We purchased a Yorkie male 3 years ago from a local gentlemen, claimed they were pure yorkies but no papers. He said the only male would be big like his sire, probably get up to 13 pounds. No problem with us, we love him. But he's huge, 16 pounds and now we're wondering if he has a mix of something else in him. The gentlemen isn't around anymore so can't go back and ask. I'm enclosing pictures of him, what do you think? He's 3 years old.Attachment 410131 Attachment 410132 |
He is adorable! Looks all Yorkie to me. Size alone is not indicative of purebred or not. My boys are larger than the Yorkie standard, larger than their parents and littermates. :) |
I appreciate the comment, doesn't look like he's going to change color much from puppyhood either. His Face and paws are getting lighter. |
We had a 17 pounder. We were disappointed at first but she was such a doll baby we wouldn't have wanted her any other way. Your boy is absolutely gorgeous! Please give him a hug for me. |
Is baby doll the darker yorkie? Sweet! Levi has no fat on him, we can feel his ribs, he's just huskie! I was just starting to wonder about him because of his size. I feel so much better now, thanks so much. |

Daisy had that feisty yorkie attitude. She made sure she always got her way. One look from her would melt your heart. The lighter colored pup was my yorkie/bichon mix Teddy Bear. He passed away in Feb. He had smaller parents but was around the same weight as Daisy. |
You can always do DNA testing if you are interested in whether the pup is purebred or not. Love the pic! |
My interest was only slight, we love him no matter what. I just wanted other yorkie owners to take a look at him to see if they could detect anything. I know it's hard with a picture and he's not standing. I'm sure he's 100% like the fellow said he was. He's a lover boy, greets everyone like they are his long lost friend. Have a great week-ends everyone. |
You'll learn many fun, useful, interesting things here...one of the most oft' repeated is that Yorkies come in many sizes. You might get comments from people you run into like, he's too big to be a Yorkie, but never mind those uninformed types. YT members speak form experience and education and know what they're talking about...! Your little man is a very handsome guy!! |
Beautiful baby. Hugs to him |

Although the written standard is not to exceed eight pounds it is true that many full blown yorkies do not fall within that standard. Silky terriers look a lot like yorkies for example but are larger and truly if there is not a long term closed pooled paper record of a dogs lineage, there could always be something slipped in our dogs history that influenced the gene pool down the line. He is a handsome fellow and I bet he is as sweet as they come :) |
