What can I do? So for the past few days, I have been pulling CARPET STAPLES out of Layla's mouth. She is constantly chewing and picking at the carpet. No chew deterrent stops her! I got her to stop chewing on wood using deoderant, but i can't use that all over my carpet! Is there anything else I could use? I am so scared she's going to hurt herself. Those are sharp! And to make it worse when I notice she's chewing on something I ask her to come and she knows she did something wrong so she runs like crazy with the staple in her mouth! I have to actually PRY it out of her mouth. She just wants to chew on metal all the time. Anything metal within her reach is always right in her mouth. I don't know what to do! |
Cali is the same way. As she has gotten older she is getting a little better. She has chewed a hole in my carpet chewed all the wood work and doors. And this is with me watching her! Nothing has worked for Cali, the deodorant, sprays she just loves wood, metal, carpet. I find when she has something in her mouth I can't chase her or she will go under the bed and I can't get her out, so I just sit down and call her over and she will come and I grab her. I think time is all that will help. How old is Layla? Cali is 7 months old. I love her name, she is so cute! |
Have you tried a kong filled with peanut butter? It will take her hours to clean it out and it really helps with their teething problems. |
t I managed to stop Trace from tearing up the carpet by sprinkling pepper on it. Didn't hurt him, but when he put his nose down....his reaction was the same as ours.....sneezes |

You can try bitter apple spray or clear deodorant. I think you should try to keep her off the carpet if you can. Get Layla lots of chew toys. You can teach her the drop and stay command. |

Mickey loves my carpet! Help! I have a carpet chewing yorkie! I have a four year old yorkie and she doesn't bother anything! My baby (1 year old) has taken to chewing the carpet in several rooms. My husband isn't going to stand for this! I saw the advice on pepper and will try that. I leave all kinds of treats out, including a kong ball. I don't want to crate him for 4 hours! Help please! |
Here is a thought for both of you. Go and buy a painters drop cloth (home depot - I like the cotton heavy weight ones - less noise and they can't pull them up) and then buy a xpen. Put the drop cloth down on your carpet and then put the xpen on top of it. They can eat their kong full of peanut butter or other flavors they sell. I have an extra large xpen ( I bought the tallest so there is no chance of anyone climbing out of it and I put two together) and when I have to put the little gang in an xpen they are happy and are not destroying anything. I leave the big gang free roaming during the day. |
