Marking I just got a 6 month old male Yorkie. He raises his leg on everything every few seconds. He gets neutered in a week. Will this help this problem and how soon afterward will it stop? |
Sorry to say that it's quite unlikely he'll stop hiking up his leg after he's neutered. If it stops, great. If it doesn't, learn to accept it and make sure you train him to not mark at home. Prevent any possibilities of him marking at home. And watch him like a hawk! I watched Scottie like a hawk while he was 6 month to 1.5 years old to make sure he knew he wasn't allowed to mark at home (i.e. you can't say "NO" if you don't catch them in the act). At first I hated the fact that he hiked his leg up at all (even though it was only during our outdoor walks), because my previous dog was a girl; she squatted and took one big pee every time. The marking makes our walks longer because he doesn't empty out on the first mark. :( Now I've accepted it. It's part of him and he really enjoys marking during our dog walks. On the plus side, I get a nice morning walk and get a chance to 'wake up' too (I'm NOT a morning person lol). He is 100% reliable at home and doesn't mark on anything whatsoever. :) |
I agree w/ Canana - neutering will not necessarily stop this. Please see the training section stickies about potty training - you need to totally start over. |
