Not Eating Food Hi All, I was wondering if anyone else came across this situation. This past weekend I took Boomer and Thumper on their first road trip to Maine. (I will post about it later as it was very eventful) However, now when I feed them Boomer will barely eat his food and Thumper will eat it after a little pushing. Its like when they first came to me back in September and they wouldn't eat. They love their food so I don't know if it is just from the stress of traveling and being on vacation. I am going to give it a few days to see if Boomer gets back to normal. He will eat his food if I sprinkle Parmesan Cheese or give him some wet food along with it. But he won't eat it all. Treats they have no problem eating. I guess for now I will try and mix their food with something wet as well to get them to eat. They are just not acting their normal selves. Honestly, I don't think I will take them on vacation again because it was very stressful for all of us. |
Yes. Chewie went from being a fantastic eater- until the Giardia incident, and it's been downhill from there. Please ask vet- or if you can get it- some nutri-cal and feed your Boomer and Thumper some when they refuse. My hubby is trying to out stubborn Chewie and it's working bit by bit. The nutri-cal helps bridge that gap. It's so hard, I know. I watched her refuse breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after dinner snack until MIDNIGHT where she very frantically ate kibble out of my daughter's and my hands. I kept giving her a quarter of a tsp of nutri cal after refusing each meal to keep weight and calories/vitamins/fat in her. I might even have to stop daily training as she gets her karo "chocolate" chip treats during that time. Anyway, yes, I feel your pain. I'm sure your thumper and boomer will be fine after a few days. |
We humans often feel out-of-sorts during and after traveling...strange people, beds, food, water...So I imagine the babies may be experiencing residuals of traveling and are now coping with re-entry back to "normalcy." I agree that a little time will probably work wonders. |

Dog I can't say enough about wellness petite casserole dog food. My boys eat the wet chicken carrot and green bean. I order it from chewy.Com Jojo gets wellness dry but spud only gets the wet. He had kidney trouble. I gave him this food and he loves it and is doing well. It's low in protein and very tasty. It's pricey but has kept spud well. I called wellness and they said it is totally balanced. Try it if your dog won't eat or has kidney issues. |
I say yes, to waiting it out for a few days so they get back into the rhythm of things. And ditto to being stressful for travelling with dogs. We've only been on 2-3 road trips. The car rides were okay. The hotel part was even okay and kind of fun. But the barking at other dogs was super embarrassing, when you just wanna relax and enjoy yourself during vacation but all they wanna do is bark at other dogs lol |
They are both back to normal being their crazy self. It took them a while with the food. What I also found was I had a package of not their usual flavor food and didn't like it. They would pick through the kibble. I ended up throwing it out and giving them their old food back. It took a few days but their routine is back on track |
