Does your Yorkie scratch your doors? Does anyone have a Yorkie who scratches at the bottom of your doors? I can't even shut him out of any room that I go into for even the slightest second that he doesn't start scratching frantically and barking. We just built a house and HAD brand new doors. There is one that he has totally destroyed down at the bottom at his level. Any suggestions on how to get him to stop this? My hubby is getting totally frustrated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. A GREAT big thanks to whomever started YT!! Love it!! :bravo: |
Chachi did that to one of our doors. I dont have any advise how to get them to stop though. Chachi just quit doing it on his own. |
I heard there is a spray you can use. I'll try and find out what it is, and get back to you. Princess has done that lot's of times. I think he just wants to be with you. :D |
OHHHH yeahhhhh....Bella scratches the doors like crazy. I cant figure out how to make her stop....maybe put some of that stuff that makes them not bite things. Good Luck and let me know if you find something that works. Thanks! :aimeeyork |
Our bedroom is off from the Laundry room where Rocky & Daisy sleep. In the morning if she senses movement in the room she starts scratching (She knows next I'm going to let them outside). On the weekends when I try to sleep in she might do it but if I give her a firm "NO" she usually stops. These little love bugs don't like to be behind closed doors but our bedroom is the only one closed off from them. There are 2 other entrances/exits off from the laundry room and I have them babygated. When I'm away from the house this allows them to feel like they are aware of everything and of course seeing everything. |
Ruby scratches the doors whenever she wants out of some were or in. She also chews on the crown moulding she I really need to figure out how to stop. |
Cali scratches at the door to get out if she hears my husband or dtr come home. |
I hate to say this, because it seems hard. Persistance is the key! I find the things I cannot tolerate, the puppies 'do not do it'. (same works for skin-kids). When the pups scratched at my door, I would jump up and put them into their cage. Same with late night barking, usually caused by cat being in their beds. Usually when we go to bed, just one will sit and whine, but if you try to let him in, you find that they are all there waiting (we think it is a trick). I now usually go 'sssshhhhh!' as loudly as I can and he will stop. I use this noise to correct them for most things, it is much more peaceful than yelling at them. They understand it to mean 'stop'. i think  |
No, he doesn't BUT, I guess I never have any of them shut. |
My Snickers Does Not Do Doors But He Does Scratch Like Crazy In His Bed Or If He Is After Something Under The Couch. I Heard That They Were Mice Or Rodent Chasers And They Would Dig Like Crazy. There Is Enough People Saying This I Guess That I Will Look In To It :) |
Sadie did this once. She chewed off a small portion of the rubber underneath the door. I had her in the laundry room that has two doors. What I did was leave one door open, and instead of shutting the door, I cut a peg board, just the size to fit the width of the door. Then, I cut it short enough so she could not jump over it. This gives her the feeling that she is not totally shut into one room. As for the other door, the one that she chewed the rubber strip partially off, I simply put a 2 x 4 in front of the door so she cannot get to it. I only put her in the laundry room if my parents cannot keep her when I am gone, or if I am gone for more than three hours. Now, I don't use the 2 x 4 anymore and she has not chewed. She is a little over three years old, and this is the only thing she has ever chewed on. Of course, I got her just ten mos. ago, so she was through the puppy stage. I think the peg board worked, as she felt too shut in. Do you leave the TV or radio on when you are gone? This may help. Hope this helps. |
Bentley started the routine of scratching at my door in the mornings while I was home on break. After my parents left for work he would go right to my door and start scratchin till I opened it. So then I would put him on my bed and be ok like bed time haha and he would just want to play! So I would put him back down and aslong as I left my door open he would go and lay down on a pile of clothes... I guess he just likes to know he can get to me if he needs me! He did lay with me a couple times though, he is just soo cutee I miss him soo much being away at school! |

idea. If she tried to jump/crawl over it, she could get caught in it, which could be disasterous. She is not a pup though. |
Had the same problem. Our family fix was I used velcro strips and stuck them to the door. Used a "sample" carpet piece I got from Home Depot free and put the back of velcro on the carpet. Stuck the whole piece to the door. No..it isn't pretty but no scratches on the door. When carpet gets old or velcro quits holding I change it out with new. All the dogs have outgrown the door scratching but the pup. Hopefully we can get him through it and take the carpet down. Its really ugly, but it saved my doors and cost next to nothing! |
