Kidney disease My first yorkie died at 16 from kidney failure. Now, my second yorkie, 10 years old, has the same problem, along with diabetes. It's heartbreaking. How prevalent is kidney disease in Yorkies? |
Kidney disease is not known to be especially prevalent among yorkies. Are your 2 yorkies related at all...? If not, I'd say it's just a really unfortunate coincidence and I'm so sorry. Many, many pets, though, do wonderfully for years to come, even after a kidney failure diagnosis. What is the current prognosis? |
I understand your pain. Please know that with diet and proper care your baby can live more many more years. I have been there. |
Kidney disease My two Yorkies are not related. I lost my first one in 2005, and found Riley a few months later. I was trying to wait to get a puppy until I retired, but didn't make it. So Riley was sneaked into my office for two months. Of course, he was discovered the second week. It turned out to be the best socialization I could have found. The vets haven't told me the prognosis. They don't want to commit. His vet bills are in the thousands, seven the first week. He has had the best care I could have found. His glucose is still high, and he is on max. doses of insulin. He is getting fluids daily for his kidneys. |
