ticks and fleas--pills or I have been using nexgaurd on my 3 since last year. I noticed this month that my dogs are constantly scratching, even with nexgard. And....this is a big one....my husband now has rocky mountain spotted fever. We live next to a field and my crew bring ticks in with them after playing in the yard. Nexgaurd won't kill the ticks until they bite. So, live ticks are brought in. I'm thinking about moving to something that I apply rather than the pills. What do are some effective treatments that you guys use. I live down south so flea and tick season is from March to November. |
Dog Check out revolution. I hope it works for you. |
Frontline Plus |
Bentley and my Boxer are on Advantix II. I had to switch them from Frontline Plus...it didn't work for them by me in Upstate NY. |

If there itchy all the time and you don't see fleas it could be allergys. I believe most things won't kill the tick until it bites. |
We use Revolution, too. If we go hiking or at the ranch I put a Seresto collar on her. When we are back home I put it in a ziplock bag to use on the next outing. They are expensive but are good for 8 years. |

We've had pretty good luck with Nexgard though and I do prefer it. So I'm going to keep using it for now until it doesn't lol. |
Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I think I'm going to check on K9 Advantix. I'm not absolutely positive that the tick was transported by the dogs, but I have seen live ticks on them. This has definitely been a wake up call for us. DH was injured about a week prior to the tick when he was trimming ivy. He actually cut down into his finger with an electric trimmer. It cut into the bone. Because of this I insisted that he go to the ER when he developed fever and chills. As a precaution they gave him meds for tick fever because he told them he'd had a tick bite. The blood work came back yesterday that it is Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. Just googling it makes me ill. I'm so glad he had that terrible cut. Otherwise, he may have been much worse before getting help. |

I also agree about revolution. Sandy was right. |
