New to Yorkies! Hi All ~ I am new to this forum and new to the Yorkie world. I am interested in getting a Yorkie puppy and have an appointment to see puppies tonight. I have been researching the breed...I see a lot of blogs/forums/posts which talk about housebreaking and how difficult it is. I'm just curious as to whether anyone has had an easy time housebreaking. I have one Maltese who is 14 and it took about 6 months to housetrain him, but after that he never had an accident in the house. I also had a 12 year old Maltese who took about 3 month to train and again, never had an accident. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Karen |
Hi Karen - and welcome :)! While it does seem that, for some reason, yorkies can be particularly tough to house train based on what we see here at YT, I really do feel that you're 95% of the way there anyway, bc you've already dealt w/ 2 puppies in your life - so you got this! :) You may like this thread too, btw: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ent-guide.html |
Thank you for the encouragement! I will keep you posted. |
My Yorkie came to my potty pad trained - she stayed with her mother longer than most puppies and her mother taught her to use the pad by example. Bottom line - the longer they stay with their mother the more balanced things are for the puppy. |
No problem potty training a Yorkie. Like Willies mom said you are there. Just do the same you have done before. When they get it, it's done. |

Just wanted to put this post up and verify it as accurate for anyone/everyone getting a baby! Specifically to this poster, I would recommend a fantastic book, "Yorkies For Dummies"....it is on Amazon.com....It is chock full of valuable information and will educate you on hundreds of different areas you are going to encounter! I recommend ALL my new owners get this book before they pick their new puppy up from me! |
There's also a great website "yorkieinfocenter.com" that has lots of good stuff. |
Thanks Welcome to yorkietalk forum:) |
Thank you, everyone! I will definitely check out the book and website! |
