Found A Bag Of Skin And Bones A couple months back while I was returning from an early season morel mushroom hunting trip, I saw a small creature cross highway 97 near the Columbia River in E WA. Took a second or so to process what it was, pulled off to the shoulder, jumped out of the truck, threw my arms up to stop the rapidly approaching highway traffic and proceeded towards the dog, the dog was now running towards me! It had no reservations about being picked up by a total stranger. After knocking on a few nearby doors to inquire about who might own her, the adrenaline of jumping in front of traffic sort of wore off and I realized how really skinny and how badly matted this little dog was. Right then, I figured she had been neglected too much to bother looking for the original owner any more. Her spine was so curved and exposed, her ribs so bare of meat or fat, her hair so matted from nose to tail, she was so skinny, that the neglect was impossible to dispute. I brought her home and told my better half to not get attached, and, that we just needed to find her a very good home. About a week later, I brought her with me while I headed East again to search for morels. The "plan" was to meet up with a long term friend and his wife who had recently lost their dog, a yorkie, to old age. Well, when/while I was heading his way, he/she canceled.... Hmmm... What the hell? So, Zippy(my other dog), Girl(still hadn't named her yet) and I hunted for morel mushrooms for the next 10 days. Camping, searching the woods, driving to new locations and doing it again. Her fun loving excitement and affection was non-stop, the amount of energy was bottomless in comparison to mine. I think it was a day after that 10 day trip that I named her. She has this high pitch whine when excited or bored, tail wagging. It reminded me of this stuffed doll character, Esmeralda, on an old kids' show, JP Patches, that used to be available in Seattle 40 years ago. Esmeralda, Ezzy for short, is now part of the Reed Family. :D She seems to be a lhasa apso, almost elongated ferret like body, golden eyes and what I'm told is a "red nose"(brownish)...... She's so tiny! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lhasa_Apso |

What a great ending , she found you. It was meant to be. |
I love this story and she is adorable. Thanks for sharing this! |
Another of God's Miracle Plans....she found the person meant to have her! What a wonderful story, with a beautiful ending! Now she is a loved member of your caring home and our YT community! |
LOVE this story! Especially the ending. :) Bet she knew she found her furever home before you did. LOL |
WHAT a sweetie!!!! I'm talking about both of you. ;) She's absolutely adorable. I love her, and she's literally glowing with happiness. |
She just LOVES everybody she meets! She's such a happy happy girl! A few weeks ago she was finding her voice while we were hunting in the woods again, for a moment, she sounded like a rottweiler. Bwa Ha Ha! She still bounces around in range, sadly, her voice didn't stay in rottweiler territory. ;) At half the weight, she gives the pom, Rambo, a run for his money as they play. She's also putting on a lot of weight. |
It was meant to be. Good job! |
How wonderful you kept her Mark, she's adorable, she's in a loving home now. |

Such a wonderful story! So happy you found each other! Glad to hear she's putting on some weight. She seems really happy with you! What a cute name, Ezzy..she's so cute! Thank you for sharing this story and the pictures :D |
Oh what a happy story!!!! I had a lasa -- Sammy -- and she has the same coloring as he did. Her face looks a little longer and I think she has yorkie eyes lol Sammy was very loving, he was a mommy's boy, cranky, stubborn and independent. He passed from kidney disease but we kept him healthy for three years... he was over 12 years old. I know you will have many happy years with you little girl |
You and Ezzy's story is most heartwarming! Love your photos especially the ones with her Dad!! :) |
I believe in miracles and your story illustrates yet another one! It gives me shivers thinking of what could have happened compared to what did happen! She is most assuredly your girl and Ezzie is completely adorable and truly precious---She simply radiates happiness---knowing she is totally loved and securely home. I'll bet you now cannot imagine life without this little honey!! |

Love coming on here today to hear your wonderful story. Congratulations! Ezzy looks a lot like my Morkie Kayla, who also loves hanging out on the back of the couch, wrapped around somebody's neck. I am so happy for her, and for you, expanding your sweet pack, and sharing your love with her. |
She's a daddy's little girl for sure the photo's are adorable, thanks for sharing. |

Thanks everyone for the comments, we have our pack of 4 now: Gucci, Zippy, Rambo & Ezzy. |
That's awesome Mark, Looks like she's found a great home, she's a very pretty girl and looks like she is enjoying playing with your other pups. |
Thank you for saving her! I have seen many dogs walking around with no tags here and I have never been successful in getting them to come to me. I always wonder what happened to them. Did they get home safely? Did someone get them? Or did they get hit. |
Aww. What a sweetie. This is great. |
