Garlic?
 
I'm thinking of going back to raw and also adding honest kitchen with it. She gobbles up any people food with no issues, so I figure, why not just let her have food she likes. Any way, they didn't have samples of the honest kitchen, but they died have Valor. Um. They put garlic in it. What the heck. I thought it wasn't good for dogs to have garlic? Does honest kitchen have some, too? Is a little actually alright? Thanks.

As long as its not in large amounts garlic has alot of health benefits to dogs. My natural dog book has a good section on it . :)

Despite the huge myth, dogs actually *can* have small amounts of garlic without any problems at all.

Some say they can have a little and some say they can't. Just to be safe I don't take any chance and avoid it completely.

Garlic in pet food

There's very little included in dog food to cause any harm...it's towards the end w/ all the vitamins & minerals. The 1st 3-4 ingredients makes up the bulk of the food.

THK does have other formulas w/out garlic.

No. Every thing I give her is first given in small quantities until i'm certain she can handle it. What makes me laugh is that the dog kibble is ALSO "people" food, it's just completely compact and in little brown hard granules. Wow! Wish I could do that for Ruger, sounds really yummy. But the Vet says no people food for Ruger since his episode with pancreatictist 😡

The term "people food" can mean many different things to many different people. Depends on what the person eats. If you are mostly a fast food eater, then definitely no, don't give people food. But if you eat healthy whole foods, why not give people food?

I stick with a rule of thumb, no processed foods or high fat foods. And of course, none of the poisonous to dogs foods. Which brings me back to the garlic. I have also read that garlic is no good for dogs, yet I remember an episode of Victoria Stilwell's show about making dog treats and home and she put in a huge handful of garlic! What gives? So personally I don't give it bc I'm not sure. But then again I have also heard conflicting reports about avocado. I tend to think it's the skin and/or seed that has the toxins bc I have been giving small amounts of avocado flesh to mine for a long time now and no ill effects, not even soft poo.
