What is "Marking" ? Ok..please dont think I am an idiot but..this is all new to me. I posted on here a couple days ago about my fear to neuter my little Buster and that word kept comming up and I have been reading a bunch of other posts that say the same thing. What is marking and when do they start to do this ? |
Males urinate to "mark" their territory. Other reasons are stimulated by smelling a female in heat, etc. Males urinate indoors on furniture, walls, floors, etc. Outside pretty much everywhere too. Neutering does help to eliminate this. I am not positive as to "when they begin", I believe 8 months give or take ?? |
Bailey was neutered at 6 months and had marked twice before that, so it can start early, He has not marked INSIDE since being neutered, Outside is another issue.. |
You would be surprised at how much control males (and sometimes females) have over the amount of urine they use. Peppy has it down to an art...... one drop here one drop there and save a drop for somewhere else. Even after a nice long walk with pee stops every few feet, he still has a drop or two to mark everything his heart desires. Around here we call it the "it's mine" game. This is mine and this is mine and that is mine. When he runs out he can't claim anything else. |

Yes, females mark too! Our Annabelle saves her drops for each special area of the yard she feels deserves her "mark". Sometimes it drives me nuts when I call her in from pottying outside. She's gotta get that "last little mark" on something, ugh. |
