We've just put him down 1 Attachment(s) Yesterday evening we put our 13yr old beloved Harvey down. His legs had given up and he had lost control of his bowels and bladder. Today I've been confronted with all of his things. My bed was cold last night. What on earth do I do now? |
I am so sorry. We lost our Sammy a few months past so I understand. I think it is important to always acknowledge your grief... remember your love. I am happy you had 13 years... sad that you only had 13 years. |

I'm sorry to here of your loss. What you do is morn him take the time you need and then think about another darling to share your love maybe a little girl . You can tell her all about her brother that came before her and how much you loved him. You could also tell us about Harvey and what you loved about him I would love to hear. |
I am sorry for your loss, and I hope you find comfort in time from the memories of all the happy years you had with him. Rest in peace, beautiful boy. |
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely boy. It's a very difficult time for those who lose their beloved pets so everyone can feel your sorrow. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts. You will always cherish his memories. |
I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. It will be a week tomorrow that I lost my Holly. She was only 5 years old, so losing her didn't even seem to be a possibility to me. I can only say be gentle with yourself. Grieving takes time, and it doesn't matter if it is a person or a beloved pet. I will say that last night was the first night I slept, and it was because I changed my position in the bed. Sounds silly but it worked. What you do now is grieve the loss of your sweet boy. I haven't moved her toys yet, but it was suggested to me to maybe put them out of sight until I feel strong enough to give them away. Hugs to you. Just know you gave him a wonderful 13 year life. |
So very sorry... It's the absolute worst thing when we have to say goodbye. |
Grieve as long as you need to. Don't worry yet about another dog to bring into your loving home. When that time is right, you will know it. No new dog what-ever sex will ever replace a lost dog. Each brand new dog comes with their unique personalities and foibles and it is our joy to find out all about this new being. I ended up keeping most of Zoeys things. Many toys have been replaced now as Dara has grown to be 2yrs old. But they are no longer Zoeys' but Daras' now. |
As gemy said now is your time to mourn. In whatever way you want to. Every person is unique. Get rid of his belongings or sleep with them. What ever feels right for you. Remember him when he was healthy, that is what he would want. He is at rainbow bridge waiting to thank you for the best 13 years that a furbaby could ever ask for. My heart cries with you over your loss. |
So sorry for your loss. Lost my first Yorkie in 2014 & it still hurts so much. It will get some better as time goes. Grive and morn for as long as it takes. |
I am so sorry for the loss of your precious 13 yr old boy. I lost my 11 yr old boy in May this year. Take your time and grieve, time heals. God Bless You. |
Sorry for your loss :( I know how hard to lose someone we love :( Be strong. |
So very sorry for your loss.I lost my little girl in 2013 it still seems like it was yesterday. I donated all her things and all my passed babies things to my local no kill shelter, I could not bear to see them.I do have a little memorial for her that will always remain there. I SWORE NO MORE dogs. Losing them had become to painful. 6 weeks after her passing my vet gifted me with a 2.5 y/o little boy that was a surrender, it was so sad to me that someone could give away this precious boy, I took him home, I KNEW I could give him a loving forever home. He helped me through a very dark time in my life, my girl was 17 y/o when I had to let her go. Cody filled that empty hole in my heart and made my house a home again. Everyone grieves differently, there may come a time when you feel the time is right and you can open you heart to another baby. (((hugs))) |
So sorry for your loss :( I too understand the feeling, having lost my girl Bibi in 2012. Like others have said, everyone mourns differently. Do whatever feels right for yourself and know that you gave your boy Harvey the best 13 years of his life! He loved you lots before and he will love you lots forever and will watch over you like a little angel over the rainbow bridge. I know it's very hard. But you will be okay. Rest in peace little man, Harvey :animal-pa |
I think each and everyone of us know how you feel. Remember, everyone grieves differently! We lost our Izzy 12/13/15 and I am still grieving. It has eased but I still cry at times.... We are here for you...RIP little boy.... |
So sorry for your loss. I lost my last Yorkie due to the exact same thing. It's hard especially when they've been with you that long :(. Just know you made the best decision for your boy and allow yourself some time to grieve. I agree with Matese. 2 weeks later I got another Yorkie and while I still miss my first, getting another one really helped me feel a little better. |
Bless you all. Thank you so much for your kind words and support. I have removed all his things but I am still sleeping next to his little bed. It still smells of him. Each day it's getting easier. |
What everyone else said and I'll add I waited well over a decade before allowing another dog in my home.... Looking back at what I did, it's more like I cheated myself out of all the joys, and struggles, of owning a dog.... If you're a dog person, and I think you probably are, don't cheat yourself out of years of joy. Take time to grieve, but get another as soon as you're ready. I waited way too long, don't do that! ;) |
Harvey was lucky to be loved so deeply. |
Mark from the sea Amen to what you said. I waited about 12 years to let a dog into my life. I swear now that I was punishing myself. Life without a Yorkie would be oh so boring;) |
Im sorry for your loss, he was a handsome boy |
Thank you all so much for your kind words. I would like to give you a little update. We picked up a new baby boy on Tuesday! He's 6 months old and his name is Monty. We are over the moon. I tried to upload pictures but it says I've exceeded the limit everytime which is weird. |
I'm so so sorry to hear of your loss... Thinking of you and your little boy <3 |
I am so sorry for your loss - it is the most difficult hardest Thing to ever do 'put your baby down'. I had to so same w/my 13.5 yorkie broke broke my heart - but her look at me told me she could take no more suffering or vet drugs.....Has taken me since last Oct. to be ok with it KNOWING I DID what was best for her... keep the good memories in you and know what - yr dog is nestled in your heart and spirit hovers over you always. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I am happy that you have a new baby! Congratulations! |

Give yourself credit for giving him a great life with lots of love.. It took me 15 years to get another one then 17 months later ANOTHER ONE! I thought I couldn't endure that heart break again but I gave in and wished I'd done it sooner. There is another baby out there for you that would love your loving heart.... Best wishes.... |

Photo size limit is 200kb. Either set your camera at a lower size or resize the photo... I had a lot of difficulty with the latter until just recently. Do you use your phone or a PC to access yorkietalk? |
