Honking noise...tracea problem? Nigel my 1 -1/2 year old yorkie (4 pounds) was making a weird honking noise and I didn't know if it was a tracea problem that I should be concerned about or just a noise. He wasn't running around or anything and I only use a harness on him. I know he sometimes plays rough with his brother Simon (yorkie, 6.5 pounds) and am wondering if he hurt him. I have also noticed that they both seem to be sneezing for the last couple of days. Any advice would be helpful. |
They could have kennel cough, or just an upper respitory infection, which is easily treated with antibiotics. If it were my babies, I'd take them to the vet just to be safe. |
It can't hurt just to have it checked out. Good luck! |
Sounds alot like Kennel cough . |

They went to the park....but Simon and Nigel both have had the Bordatella vaccination shots. Can they still get kennel cough? |
I honking noise can very well be tracheal problems, however it can also be a URI(uooer respiratory Infection) Ho[e this helps. |

Honking can be caused by many factors. Reverse sneezing, trachea problems, kennel cough, URI. Some serious, some not. If it's a constant, habitual behavior, make note of the situation involved with the behavior and discuss it with your vet. |
Some yorkies do Reverse Sneezing too - Chanel used to do it when I came home and she'd get SUPER excited - next thing I knew she'd be snorting like she couldn't stop ...and I gently tap her nostrils and hold my fingers there a second or 2...it helps her swallow & she usually stops - it could be alot any of the above causing that noise....Sylvan pretty much nailed it for you in her post. IF you can get it on Tape then you can at least have it to let your vet listen to - cause you know they never do this stuff in front of the Doctor.... |
My 3 year old Chelsie has collapsed trachea. The first sign I had was when she began to "honk" or "snort", she was probably about 1 year old at the time. She needed to have surgery, as her condition became life threatening. If things don't improve for him, and you need any more information please don't hesitate to e-mail me. I now know TOO much about Collapsed Trachea, and unfortunately Paralyzed Laranyx. It is a serious and scary condition. Kara |
My little girl haley, was making weird noises and coughing alot, made her a vet appointment - thought she had Kennel cough, but her throat was swollen, vet said it was normal with this type of breed, he gave her a shot to reduce the swelling and some pills, she's been fine. But it never hurts, i would call the vets... |
