Foaming at the mouth Ok, this is weird. Princess was playing and I looked at her and she had foam, or like a drool mixture, all over her mouth. But, she is acting completely normal. She has only done this once before and it was when we TRIED to put that ear cleaning solution in her ears. I figured that she got some of it in her mouth and that is what caused it. Does anyone know why she is doing this every once in awhile? Like I said, she doesnt seem hurt--she acts fine. Or, does anyone elses yorkie do this? BC if it is something big I want to take care of it now. Thank you!! |
I don't think it's anything to worry about. SHe probably just played so hard she got her body all worked up. But if you notice her having trouble breathing at all, take her to the vet. Just keep an eye on her. Sounds like she is A-OK though! :) |
foaming at the mouth IS NOT NORMAL I would keep a very close eye on her if you see it again, get to the vet ASAP. Many times foaming at the mouth is a precursor to a seizure. Please watch her. |
I do not have a Yorkie but.. i do have a maltese and he foamed at the mouth in two different ways... once was because he was sick.. and its was him throwing up... and another was when he drank his water too fast and ran around (this also sometimes happens after a bath when he licks too much of the water)... I'm not a doc but foam at the mouth depends... just keep a watchful eye on your baby. :) |
If a dog gets something in their mouth that is not a good taste or is poisonous even they will foam and drool. Could she have gotten into something bad tasting. I would watch her closely and get to the vet if it happens again just to be safe. |
You know, Socalyorki, you are probably right. We are getting a new couch and had to put tape on the floor to measure. Well, Princess thinks the tape is a toy. I caught her right before I saw the "foam/drool" thing biting the tape off the floor. She never ate it, but had it in her mouth. Plus, she just got her teeth pulled last week. But, she is still 100% fine. I am worry wort about her and I feel she is ok. It is just really odd. Thank You--I will defintely watch her-as she is pigging out on her food now!!! |

When you see a large amount of little bubbles mixed with heavy saliva coming out all sides of their mouth, that would be a real concern |
My Tori drools badly and I have taken her to the vet 3 different times. They can not find a thing wrong with her other than when she is missing teeth the drool (which sometimes has a little bit of bubble to it) just seems to pour out of her little mouth. I would def. check in with your vet... |
I'd have to say if it true "foam" then I would be very concerned too - I hope your baby is ok and maybe just got something really bad tasting... but foam in their mouths can also be a sign of something else, possibly serious...I do agree the best thing to do is watch her very closely and good luck !! |
I only had experience with this "foam" or excessive drooling once...This was when Sammi got poisioned from a house plant...If I were you I would call the vet...You dont want to let it go much longer... Please keep us posted |
Thanks you all for the info and support. She is still acting 100% and it hasnt happend again. But, I think it would not hurt if I asked the vet. I will call tomorrow!! Thanks again!! :) |
