Not sure how 8yr neutered male will react wanting to get a female puppy I have my 8 yr d baby Maxx, lately I've had the puppy bug and really want to get a little girl. Not sure howid will react or if he will accept her. Anyone with experience??? My kids had a hamster last year that we had to rehome b/c he was very stressed out having a hamster in the house, I know it's a rodent so hoping it won't be the same reaction with a puppy, but just looking for advice/experience. |
Every dog is different and will react differently. But all of mine (I have 4) reacted well to the additions. There was some adjustment time, sure, but it all worked out. Most will adjust...very rare that they don't. |

I have 2 boys and the older one accepted the younger one immediately. There were some issues to work out, an adjustment period as Ann described, but overall it was a positive experience. My older one did well with dogs outside our home. That may have helped. Sometimes puppy antics can be annoying to the older dog. Make sure Maxx has a place to escape the puppy when he wants a break. A couple of my friends had older Yorkie boys when they added girl puppies. Their boys were very accepting of the puppies and acted almost parental toward them. You may luck out that way. |

I predict they'll become best friends. This is based on many years ago, in the 1980s, when I took a Maltese female puppy home for my cranky 8 year old mixed breed, Dudley, to cope with. Dudley was difficult, allowed by his breeder to come home with me at 7 weeks old. This was decades before I was to take an interest in breeding. The internet, and easy availability of the information we have access to today weren't invented yet. Due to his circumstances, Dudley was a "special needs" case. Bringing that 5 months old Maltese puppy was the best thing that ever happened to him. His personality blossomed and he absolutely thrived with the addition of this puppy to the household. He lived to almost 18 years of age. My interest in Yorkies started with his passing. |
we have a little girl and just added a boy, one month ago. I was VERY nervous bc she is def the queen of our home-I have four sons and we all shower her with adoration. BUT baby Boy Hudson has been with us a month and they are super cute together. The first couple of weeks had ups n downs, with some play that I wasn't sure if it was too rough, so would sometimes separate (my boy n girl maltese never really played together). Keep us posted. Oh and I had texted Ella's trainer, he said MOST opposite gender dogs start to be buddies by one month and beyond. |
Don't worry I know you're 8yr neutered male will surely like your new family member and treat her as a sister, for the first day just don't expect that they will be close to each other just always monitor the behaviour of your 8yrs male puppy. On the other day you will see now that they are best friend. |
