Question About Neutering/Lapse in Potty Training Percy has been completely potty trained for about three weeks. We've been leaving him with Zeusy with access to the den/kitchen/laundry room while we work. No problems until this past weekend. Now he just pees (still poos on the pads) wherever he sees fit. Will take him to the pad, and he will walk off and go pee somewhere else. He is 5 months old so neutering is on the horizon. Do some males tend to do this around this time? His privates have descended, and we are noticing a little more "manliness" to his attitude. I'm afraid we are going to have to neuter (I do not want him raising his leg), and then have to pay for a dental in the future. This baby has not lost a single tooth and has no new permanent teeth coming in. To double question, how late can the permanent teeth come in? Thanks for any advice!! |
How could be marking this early. Some dogs start earlier than others, same as with leg lifting. Max was lifting his leg at 13 weeks. :D Having more than one dog in the house probably brings out the urge to mark earlier. Teeth: Max was neutered at 6 months of age and had about 6 baby teeth that had to be pulled. If I recall correctly, his adult teeth were already coming in at that time. My neighbor had a small girl Yorkie who had to have all of her baby teeth removed manually at 1 year of age. She didn't lose a single one naturally. |
We're learning the hard way that we got an exception to the Yorkie rule with Zeusy. He is just the most perfect dog in every way. He was completely potty trained by 4 months old and has NEVER had one accident in our house. He never lifted his leg or marked. He lost every tooth in his head but one by 5 months old. I guess we simply got lucky. Percy is going in for the snip snip ASAP. |

Max was very easy going too. Good thing, because I didn't know what I was doing raising a puppy. ;):D He is funny though and has to have one paw off the floor when he uses the pad. Instead of doing a full leg lift like he does outdoors, he does what I call his ballet move and just lifts his foot up partially. We brought Teddy home when he was 8 months old, so he was already potty trained. We were lucky that he wasn't a marker considering he was in his breeder's home with un-fixed dogs, and he was not neutered until 7 months. Max taught Teddy to lift his leg outdoors. *sigh* I wish they were both squatters. |
