WHY does Moxie potty when she knows it's wrong? I take her outside and use wee pads, but she will go on the floor sometimes. She knows she is not supposed to do it because if I catch her, she immediately puts her head and tail down and slinks away and hides. Or if I come home and she has done it, she does the same thing as soon as I see her instead of coming to greet me with excitement. When I catch her I tell her "NO" very sternly and may give her a time out in the bathroom. When she goes on her wee pads or outside I praise her. Why on earth would she go someplace inside other than her wee pads if she seems to understand it's bad behavior? Lol, is she just too spoiled and doesn't really care because she knows i cater to her every whim whether she behaves or not? |
Try ignoring the accidents. Don't scold. Give a small food reward with the praise when she gets it right. My boys are 6 and 7 and we still go crazy with potty rewards. I think that is why they always go to their pad. They do fake pees too for the rewards. :D Make sure the pad is changed often enough. When Max was a pup, he really liked fresh pads. One pee and he would roll up the pad himself. Poop has to be picked up right away. The boys tell us when they need to do that, just like a strictly outdoor trained dog. If we are not nearby, Max will bark a certain way to let us know that a cleanup is needed. Clean up the accident spots thoroughly with an enzyme cleaner so that the scent doesn't attract her to return to the spot and do it again. |
How old is Moxie? It may be a maturity/control issue rather than a behaviour problem. |
