Pet Friendly Apartment
 

Yes, I did, I had 2 yorkies, no one would rent to me because of my babies. I
HAD to move from an apartment I lived in for 22 years, the owner sold the home, the new owner wanted me out. They broke head lights on my cars, gave me flat tires, would shut off the hot water when I was in the shower. Then told the neighbors I better watch out for my dogs, they put rat poison on the strip of grass the dogs and I had to cross to get to the street, there were NOT RATS, I lived there long enough to know that. I looked for 3 months for a place that would accept my pups to no avail, so, I bought a house 2 states away. Now I don't have to fear ppl threaten to poison my babies, and ppl that do not want to rent to anyone that has a dog. You are very lucky to have found an apartment that would rent to you and yours baby. Congrats on your new dwelling and wonderful that your baby has a yard to play in.

It is tough to find places that rent to pet owners. Years ago when my now 15 year old yorkie was young, most places wanted either a non refundable pet deposit and xtra money per month in rent! I wouldn't disclose that I had a pet and he was super quiet anyway and I would take him with me most places so he wasn't home alone to bark.

This makes me want to stay in my apartment and not move. I am lucky as my landlord allows as many pets we want and any size. He also does not charge a deposit or extra each month. I don't love the building but He is very pet friendly.

When we lived in Atlanta, most apartments were pet friendly. Living in DC/Burbs thereof, it was a little more challenging to find a place however we found something and had not had any issues.

I think a 5 pound dog can do a lot of damage and I'm a landlord and I'm one to say no to pets. Sometimes people don't take care of your stuff like you would.

Yes and no. When looking for apartments or condos to rent, it was difficult to find a place that was pet friendly. I started looking at houses, and most just asked for a separate, non-refundable pet deposit.

My last rental place, the real estate agent met Kaji, vouched for us, and was able to get the pet deposit waved. Lovely landlord, lovely house, great neighborhood. I'm so sad we ever left!

Yes! It's a nightmare. It's pretty upsetting because I feel like a lot of animals end up abandoned because their owners are moving and "can't" take them. I know people here (myself) included would never give up their babies, but some people aren't such good parents to their furry family members :( Moxie is technically an ESA but no one respected that at all. There were times I was panicking because I really didn't know where we would go unless I tripled my price range.

I recently moved to the Bay Area and am actually living in the east bay instead of SF because of Moxie. Almost every place I looked at said no dogs, they already had a dog and couldn't have another, they had a cat that didn't like dogs, someone was allergic to dogs (she's a yorkie), someone was afraid of dogs (she's 6lbs), or would have major conditions I didn't feel comfortable with- like she couldn't go on the furniture or had to stay locked in my room if I wasn't home (that would be ok for some dogs, but mine is too curious, social, spoiled, and energetic at this point in her life). I don't like my neighborhood and it's further out than I would like but it's the best option for her- the house it big enough for her to run around, there is a fenced yard, another dog to keep her company, and another dog owner/ lover who works part-time and is willing to help me out when I need to be gone all day. People act like I am crazy, but I would rather deal with the negative aspects than give my baby up (NEVER!) or live somewhere where she is unwelcome. In the past, I lived in an AMAZING, desireable location but with a roommate that didn't like dogs, and I worried too much about her.

When we moved from MI to NE 3 years ago, I couldn't believe how hard it was to find an apartment that allowed 2 dogs! We had to pay a separate pet deposit ($500 I think) and we pay $70/month for pet rent.

Wow I wish we could organize should it not be our right to own dogs and secure good affordable rent without a premium price attached to it.

You know it is different if there are rational rules about dog ownership in apartments. Barking too much aggressive behaviour etc. Pay for damages *if any* if and when you move out.

So glad to hear you found such an ideal place though - cool!

I've heard others having difficulties finding apt that allows pets. Just as an FYI, recently, there's been a huge surge of new condos in an area of Vancouver that are all pet friendly. In my neighborhood, there's practically a dog every 10 meters during our walk! And now, it seems almost 30% of the people in my neighborhood have two dogs! It's dogcity here! :cool:
