Need advice about this harness I purchased the susan lanci tail bow harness in a size xs which is for 10.5-12" girth. My yorkie is 11" girth with her long hair.. but I can fit 4 fingers through the top of this harness. I have tried the xxs and it's too small. Before this harness I was using a buddy belt and although they are very nice, her hair was getting very matted and it was making her cough when she pulled on it. This harness is super soft and she really loves it.. should I just use it with a dress under or with a sweater in the winter? I let her walk around in the house with it on for 30 min and she couldn't get her legs out of it. What do you guys think? Keep or should I not keep it if it's 1" too large. |
I don't know...bc I've personally seen a lot of dogs slip out of harnesses, so I'd be very, very cautious w/ a too-big harness if I were you. She may not slip out around the house but imagine if she was scared/startled - I bet she could. |

did you ever try a puppia? my two wear an xs and they are soft |
I use Puppia and love it. my dogs are on the cusp of the sizing chart so I went with a bigger size. I was afraid with the smaller size they wouldn't be able to get their head through the opening. I just tightened it all the way and even though it looks big they have yet to slip out of it. |
That's strange that the buddy belt made her cough. I have a big puller with ct and it does not make her cough. Generally it would need to push on the their trachea to cause coughing and the buddy let doesn't. To loose of a harness would worry me because if she pulls she can slip out of it. |

When my dog was a puller, I also had the issue of coughing with the buddy belt. I found the coughing went away if I used a shorter leash. I think it's somewhere around 3.5 feet. I'm guessing that somehow maybe the length of the leash would affect where the pressure was on the buddy belt when being pulled. |
