My Yorkie's Hair is Super Thin 1 Attachment(s) our 5 month old is a joy....he is such a good boy we love him so much......my question is about his coat......although it is growing and is starting to gain a little length.....it is very very thin.....on the top of his head you can literally see his. Scalp its so thin........the hair on his back is so thin you can see his body underneath......some people are telling mme that it is normal for a 5 month old yorkie to go through a thinning phase.......something about the hair usually gets thin when the adult hair is starting to come in.......has anybody else experienced this "Thinning Phase"......and if so did it end up being ok or did the hair get worse??........i enclosed a pic of what he looks like.....and although his coat looks nice in the picture.....it is extremely thin in person.......hopefully you guys can help me out with some answers or your experiences with the subject........thanks in Advance |
This cutie's coat looks quite normal to me really. When the silver/blonde starts coming in - it can look a bit odd for a while bc one feels like they're seeing the scalp too much. Some yorkies do have thinner coats, some have thicker....just part of genetics like in humans. |
Geez, I am no professional, that's for sure, but his coat looks absolutely great to me---really nice; it is certainly not thin or whispy-looking at all! |
My Abby has a very fine, thin coat. I cut her short as a puppy and she looked like a chihuhua! I was so upset- But I keep it trimmed at medium length now- She is 5 yrs old and really is quite pretty - she needs a bath every week or ten days or her hair gets flat and greasy looking. I give her a grainfree fish based food and it really makes a difference in the shine. She is easy to care for, never a knot or tangle.Your pup looks a lot like Abby! |
Your Abby looks so sweet and very, very pretty--no doubt she's all girl--the belle of the ball--and rightly so! |
I wouldn't worry too much. Prince's hair looks normal to me. Scottie's hair is quite a bit thicker than Casie's too. As long as there aren't any spots that are thinning or that there's no noticeable thinning later on, he should be fine :) |
Okay, this may sound a little crazy, but from the human end of things, I may be able to help. I am 48 and have almost all white hair in the front (I've been graying since my 20's - gotta love the Irish genes). Even though my hair is still very, very thick, I can see the scalp more where the hair is white. It's like an optical illusion. The darker hair is not obscuring the scalp anymore. Just a little food for thought. On the Yorkie side of things, my Zeusy had white hair on his head at six months old. I could see that poor baby's scalp as well. Now at 18 months old, his hair is more cream/blonde on his head and you can't see the scalp. I think the color has a lot to do with what you see. His hair has turned more colors than leaves in the fall over this past year and a half. I think your baby's hair looks completely normal and definitely gorgeous!!:) |

Your puppy looks like he has a beautiful coat. My boys are full brothers, both silky coats, but Max has twice as much hair as Teddy. |
My baby boy is five months -has a super thick n silky coat, my girls coat is much thinner and diff texture. They came from two very different breeders. Is there a reason you are concerned or just curious? |
