Brand New Hello everyone. I am brand new to this site and this is my first post ever. I have an American Bulldog and a Papillon. I lost my best friend in the world in November. His name was Bandit and he was a Standard Poodle that drank some water, ran around the house once and a few hours later was dead from bloat. It happened that quick. I had elevated bowls and always tried to keep his bowls high above ground and not let him run around or drink too much when being active, etc.. It was just baad luck. I am on this site because I used to have a Yorkie many moons ago and I felt after some time had passed I would probably want another dog. Well that time has passed and I am now looking at Yorkies. Things have changed in the 20 years or so since I had a Yorkie. Someone snuck in a very cool looking Yorkie co - breed called a Biewer. At first I thought it was your typical designer dog scammers trying to make money off of innocent dog lovers. Well, apparently I am wrong and this is an accepted breed (more or less) and I would really like to find out more about them. Are Biewers an accepted breed? Were they really born of established Yorkshire Terriers living in Germany? What is the difference between a Parti Yorkie and a Biewer Yorkie? Should I just tear out the very little hair I have left in my head? Do these dogs have the same traits as the beloved Yorkshire Terriers? Should I just stick with the standard old style Yorkies even though they live a very long time and I hope to make it that long myself, lol. I would be so grateful to hear from some of you established folks that are in the know and really have a clue as to what I'm talking about. Lol, it just seems to me that there is always some new way for someone to find a way to make a good buck. When I saw some of the prices of these dogs online I almost choked on my dinner. Did you see the $10,000 U.S. pups that I have seen? I thought it said $1.000 U.S. but then I did some reading with my reading glasses and realized I must be stuck in the 80's, lol. I hope to hear from some of you soon and hopefully I will be out of my sticker shock induced coma. Thank you in advance and God bless. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I am sorry to hear about your heartbreaking loss of your poodle. I will let the more knowledgeable people explain the differences between the Biewer and Partis. There are lots here. $10,000 price tags for a pup are very likely from brokers, who you want to steer clear from. Pet Yorkies, AKC limited registration (no breeding), are far less. Best wishes in your search. |
Welcome to YT and yes the Biewer is an accepted breed, not a "designer" dog as mutts are being called today, although some of these "designer" dogs sure are little cuties with a big price tag. I LOVE the Biewer breed but do not own one. I will let the more knowledgeable members explain the dif. I also agree with Maximo, if you see a price tag of $10,000 it is most likely a broker NOT the breeder and yes stay away from all brokers. Good luck in your quest to find that special little baby. |
Thank You. I would like to thank both of you for your kind replies. I realize that a $10,000 price tag must be a broker but it still floored me, lol. I haven't owned a Yorkie in 25+ years and hadn't even heard of a Biewer so all of this was a shock. I love the Yorkie breed and from what I have read, the Biewers are techicanlly Yorkies with a different colored coat. Of course, then there is the whole "Parti " scenario. A lot of the parti Yorkies I have seen do not look like purebred Yorkshire Terriers at all. It's so obvious that some of them are just a small breed mixed with a Yorkie. In some cases they look more like the breed they were mixed with and they just happen to have the hair color of the Biewer. I will take my time and find a reputable breeder. I still am debating the whole traditional Yorkie vs. Biewer thing. Thank you so much for responding to me, I am truly thankful. Best of luck and God bless. Sincerely, Tommy |
hi and welcome :) :so sorry for your loss and looking forward to meeting your baby in the future! |
Thanks so much for the kind words. Dog people are just great people, they really are. I am so glad to have joined this site as I get to meet more awesome people like yourself. Thanks again and God bless.:animal36 |
Hi and welcome. You may find this thread helpful: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...formation.html Also, there is a member here who is a Biewer breeder of impeccable integrity; I have great respect for her as a person. Her name is Deb (user name bchgirl). This is her site: Virginia Biewer puppies for sale Oh hey - I'm in Phx too - hi neighbor!!! :D |
Welcome to YT!! This is a really great community of compassionate dog lovers and Yorkie parents! I understand your dilemma! I had also considered the Biewer yorkie during my Yorkie search. I first saw pictures of a Biewer here on YT actually - a member named Verbana has the most beautiful Biewer (in my opinion)!! But during my search, I quickly realized that not all breeders breed them the same. Some look quite different, such as the shape of the face. Or maybe the Biewer breed is harder to breed, since the colouring and look is more unpredictable (?) - I wouldn't know :p In addition, I quickly realized that there are not that many Biewer breeders in general, not to mention none in my city. Because of the lack of available (and reputable) ones nearby I was more comfortable with going with the Yorkie - which I love love love with all my heart :D |
Thanks Thanks to both of you folks. Everyone has been great. I really appreciate the assistance. I will def check out the links you sent. I'm really looking forward to it. ...............Howdy to you neighbor. I'm actually just a touch north of Phoenix. We've lived out here about 4 years and love it. After I finally get my pup I will be posting my pics along with thanks for all you people helping me out. Maybe we'll actually get to have our dogs to meet up. After I have my pup I might try to go to a few dog shows, especially if they have any breed shows for yorkies. Talk to you soon. Thanks again and God bless. Tommy |
Hi and welcome to YT. I have been showing and breeding Biewers since 2004. I'm always happy to talk about the Biewers. The person advertising dogs for $10,000 should raise a million red flags for you. She has 53 Biewers as well as several other breeds. I'm having puppies next week. I'm always available. |
