Are you a hugger, think again. Okay, I am guilty as charged. I hugged my Kippers. Perhaps I was projecting a human emotion on my dear dog, but it brought me comfort. Now someone send me this article from Psychology Today that states it causes a dog stress to be hugged. Really? Are you a hugger?http://eepurl.com/b2Rt99 perhaps this is something to consider. What do you think? |
I read that couple weeks ago. Heck, it was even in the Korean newspaper and my dad mentioned it to me. LOL Personally, I feel the study is flawed. She used pictures from the internet. This wouldn't exactly be considered a "controlled" study if you will. Zoey likes being picked up, hugged, held by me and me only. If anyone else (especially other than my parents), she definitely shows signs of stress. |
Zoey does not like to be hugged and neither does Jackson. It really scares jack and Zoey looks scared. She sits on me anytime I sit and cuddles in bed but hugging is definitely out. |
Lol my lil guy is a hugger :) |
I've heard this before, and it makes sense- dogs don't share/ give affection that way since they don't have arms, it's a very human thing. Also, I would imagine it might feel suffocating and confining to a dog, like you are trapping them since they don't know your intention. I think it depends on the dog, because that said, Moxie is very affectionate and does like to give hugs (only to me as far as I know). She begs to be held and will jump in to my arms and put one paw on either side of my neck. She also shows affection by giving kisses and nibbling, licking my face and I will scratch or rub her. I'm not licking or nibbling her back, lol! |

LOL Zoey does similar things. Magnus on the other hand... He's not very affectionate unless he wants something from you. He knows how to play the game. |
Emma hugs my daughter. She doesn't hug me but she lays her head on my chest which I equate to her being still a baby. |
Like others above, I believe it depends on the dog. My boys love hugging and come to us often for it. Same with our previous dog who was much larger. She was 85 pounds and would put her "arms" around our necks. :D There are a lot of things that I do with my dogs that are considered wrong or aggressive, like sustained direct eye contact and being nose to nose. It's a matter of trust and allowing the dog to be free to walk away when he or she chooses. I also would not do never do these things when the dog is in the wrong mood, like a heightened state of alert. |
All things considered, I'd rather hug an have my lil boy kiss me then my great aunt with a mustache when I we a little boy :( |
Chuy is always wanting to climb in my lap when I'm on the computer sitting in an office chair. He is 15 lbs with long legs and is really too big to fit on my lap. The only way he can manage is if I hold on to him firmly, like a hug, otherwise he slides off. I can only conclude that he doesn't mind hugs because he knows that is what happens when he wants on my lap. |
I have a young male, Ty, and he adores it when I hug hum abd just coo in his ear about how sweet and precious he is....he gets almost transfixed, eyes 3/4 closed, mesmerized by his love for his momma.....I adore this baby boy....I adore all my kiddos, but each one that I hold and love on and kiss on and snuggle against, each one is "my favorite" baby! I will whisper to each one, "You know, you are my very favorite of all, but dont tell any of the others....".....and they dont, they keep the secret! |
I think it really depends on the dog...Turbo doesn't like being hugged, he'll yawn when I go in to hug & kiss him, then he'll flip over for a tummy rub LOL. Mimi doesn't like it either, she'll yawn really big & even shake her head a little. I still hug & kiss her anyway.:p Momo loves making out LOL...only thing he doesn't like is head pats, he'll dodge those. Princess is my little shadow, so loves huggles & kisses.:aimeeyork |

lol I wouldn't call my furbaby a hugger per say. But she does love being cuddled but in a manner she likes and is comfortable with. She'll let me know if she doesn't like it X_x |
Mario seems to think he is a scarf (drapes all over my neck). I find it hard to imagine him being stressed by hugging :D LOL. He seems more stressed if I put him down as opposed to holding/hugging him. |
